Chief Nursing Informatic Officer

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Analyzes hospital mission-related information requirements and formulates appropriate computing solutions

  • Facilitates and supports the realization of the objectives of end-user groups and informatics planning committees

  • Coordinates joint planning and implementation of end-user informatics solutions.

  • Evaluates IT processes using ‘lean thinking’ in partnership with clinical staff. Initiates projects to evaluate and recommend appropriate solutions to clinical and administrative computing problems in the hospital

  • Participates in the development and implementation of, and adherence to, hospital standards for end-user computing practices, methodologies and information management

  • Investigates informatics problem areas, and recommends or implements solutions

  • Plays an active role in the formulation of guidelines for, and participates in planning, priority setting, adoption and utilization of appropriate end-user products, and the design and development of related procedures

  • Supervises liaisons’ duties between the end-user departments and Nursing Affairs and Medical Clinical Informatics

  • Identifies ideas that will improve the quality of patient care and issues that will negatively impact on patient care outcomes, using the professional practice framework. Participates through team working and collaborative partnerships in identifying and implementing solutions through evidence based practice or research to demonstrate improvements reflected in unit, divisional, organizational data and bench marks

  • Promotes and maintains effective communication. Actively welcomes new staff to area. Treats colleagues, patients and visitors with dignity and respect at all times. Participates in staff retention across Nursing Affairs.

  • Ensures ongoing individual performance appraisals are objectively completed for staff members against set criteria. Assists with action plans arising from these appraisals as necessary

  • Provides clear feedback to team members in a manner that is conductive to maintaining and improving performance. Counsels and/or disciplines staff when appropriate

  • Supports the recruitment of staff to area and assists in developing competence to maintaining and improving performance. Counsels and/or disciplines staff when appropriate

  • Supports the recruitment of staff to area and assists in developing competence and performance. Acts as a mentor for new staff as they develop competence

  • Leads and demonstrates achievement in meeting targets for Saudization and nationality mix in areas of responsibility, consistent with Nursing Affairs strategic plan.

  • Coordinates training for Nursing Informatics staff to ensure continuous and efficient service to end users

  • Keeps up-to-date with in-house and “leading –edge” technological developments in information systems and planning methodologies, in order to promote integrated informatics solutions . Provides documented evidence of performance and maintenance of skills consistent with the post

  • Provides administrative as well as technical direction to the Nursing Informatics staff

  • Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of all positions in assigned area against the primary purpose and strategic goals

  • Participates in the development and evaluation of IPPs Upholds the organizational values at all times

  • Follows all hospital related policies and procedures

  • Participates in self and other’s education, training and development, as applicable

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing Informatics or related field desirable, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Nursing Informatics required

Experience Required:

  • Three (3) years’ experience in hospital informatics with a Master’s degree, OR five (5) years’ experience in hospital or nursing informatics with a Bachelor’s degree required.
