Consultant Transplant Psychology

Responsibilities / Duties:

Clinical

  • Evaluating, developing and implantation assessment and counselling plans for patients and donors to determine their eligibility for transplant and donation, respectively.

  • Implementing counselling, follow up strategies and treatment protocols to help transplant recipients and donors reduce negative psychological symptoms, manage stress and improve adherence to medical regimen to enhance quality of life and psycho social functioning.

  • Helping family members cope successfully with demands of caring for patients in need of or recovering from organ transplantation

  • Coordinating health care provision for transplant patients and organ donors with other health providers at KFSH&RC and other institutions

  • Collaborating with other transplant team members i.e. transplant coordinators, clinicians, surgeons, nurses, social workers etc. to coordinate and facilitate access and consistency of best healthcare for organ recipients, their families and organ donors

  • Providing on call coverage as assigned

  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Academic

  • Directs and advises junior staff on patient care in the field of transplant psychology

  • Guides and actively participates in the training and teaching of junior staff

  • Keeps abreast with all the latest developments, especially in the field of transplant psychology, following and implementing them on a selective basis to improve technical standards

  • Actively participates in undergraduate and post graduate educational activities and training programs as assigned by Director Organ Transplant Center

  • Participates in national and international medical conferences as assigned

Research Responsibilities 

  • Actively participates in clinical, basic and transnational research projects and publishes papers in accordance with Research advisory Council Policy in order to advance knowledge, improve the quality of post graduate education and contribute to the national and international recognition of KFSH&RC (Gen. Org).

Administrative Responsibilities 

  • Participates in committees and administrative functions as required

  • Actively contributed to the Division and/or Departmental documentation of patients care processes and outcome in the chart and/or Organ Transplant Registry

  • Participates in the Department and/or the Organ Transplant Center activities i.e. staff meeting, OTC core lectures, research forums

  • Undertakes administrative duties as assigned by Section Head and Director, Organ Transplant Center

  • Participates in all mandatory Departmental activities and the Organ Transplant Center’s activities i.e. Staff Meeting, Core Lectures, Research Forum, etc. and serves on Departmental and Hospital committees as required

  • Assists the Department in the development and implementation of techniques and practise that help maximize the utilization of all resources within the Department and across the Hospital

  • Abides by the current Hospital and medical staff bylaws, all relevant rules, regulations and policies and keeps updated of any changes that might occur

  • Complies with all hospitals related policies and procedures

  • Participates in self and others’ education training and development, as applicable

Qualifications Required:

  • PhD or equivalent in clinical or counselling psychology from an accredited college of university

  • Internship and post-doctoral fellowships completed from an accredited program with emphasis on working with medical inpatients

  • Board Certification, preferable in an area such as health psychology, clinical psychology, and/or rehabilitation psychology

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience (i.e. assessment, intervention, consultation with medical psychiatry at an accredited transplant program
