Infection Control Practitioner

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Responsible for surveillance of infections based on the Infection Control Surveillance Plan for assigned inpatient and ambulatory care units

  • Documents diseases required to be reported formally to the Ministry of Health and submit reports

  • Makes recommendations on appropriate isolation precautions to be used for known or suspected infectious processes

  • Initiates transmission based on isolation precautions and discontinues precautions as indicated. Performs appropriate follow-up of employee and patient exposure to diseases for which specific protocols exist.

  • Integrates clinical findings, directs patient observations, laboratory results, and other diagnostic tests to determine the presence of infection according to the criteria established by the CDC and National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN)

  • Collaborates with the Infection Control Coordinator on activities, decision and actions related to the environmental of care and risk management

  • Responsible for the epidemiological investigation of infection across the hospital. Applies epidemiological principle and statistical methods, including risk stratification, to identify target population, analyze trends and risk factors and design and evaluate controls

  • Ensures that the Infection Control Standards for Join Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) for the hospitals are met

  • Serves as knowledgeable and available resource on infection control practices and policies to patients, families, staff and health system employees

  • Assists with the establishment of standards of infection control practice that is scientifically based and consistent with regulatory requirements and participates in the development and revision of infection control policies and procedures

  • Inputs and maintains data in the infection control database

  • Participates in Hospital-wife Performance Improvement activities

  • Follows all Hospitals related policies and procedures

  • Participates in self & others’ education, training and development as applicable

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

  • Active Registered Nurse Licence

  • or Bachelor’s Degree in Laboratory Science or any health related field from an accredited university

Experience Required:

  • Minimum Three (3) year’s clinical nursing experience or related field in a hospital facility or public health sector or teaching hospital with strong knowledge base including at least one (1) years of experience in communicable diseases or a minimum of three (3) years microbiology laboratory experience in a tertiary care facility
