MRI Technologist I

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Perform Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures for all patients as requested and ensure availability of images with required information in the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Radiology Information System (RIS) immediately after completing the procedures according to departmental protocols and standards.

  • Review and comply with hospital and departmental policies and protocols.

  • Participate in the implementation of the departmental strategic plan.

  • Assist in organizing, supervising, coordinating and representing the provision of MRI service.

  • Assist in developing the policies, procedures and protocols in the Department of Medical Imaging.

  • Participate in departmental in-services and lectures for staff and Radiology students.

  • Coordinate care and safety of patients during MRI procedures.

  • Ensure communication with patients and staff is meaningful and professional.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality, rights and privacy at all times.

  • Handle equipment and related accessories safely and responsibly.

  • Cover the department during working shifts/on calls as scheduled and during emergencies or disaster as requested.

  • Follow established Magnetic Resonance protection measures for themselves, patients, other staff and the population in general.

  • Set-up and operate equipment to perform MRI examinations/procedures according to departmental protocols and report all equipment faults and errors to the Supervisor.

  • Ensure scheduled work is completed before signing out.

  • Select the proper equipment, accessories and techniques to obtain the highest image quality.

  • Fully inform patients and/or relatives as to the nature of the procedures to be performed.

  • Ensure correct patient identification and site verification checks are undertaken for each examination.

  • Ensure all applicable licenses and/or trainings are maintained current including Basic Life Support Certification.Ensure new staff receives the proper level of training and orientation for the hospital, the department and their specific workplace.

  • Ensure all staff follows established International Patient Safety goals.

  • Represent the department by attending relevant committees as delegated.

  • Provide first level of problem solving and support for work related issues.

  • Perform other job related duties as required.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Radiological Sciences or related field or equivalent

  • Current certification/registration/license to practice MRI

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of five (5) years in MRI
