Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Organizes work flow and day-today operations of the subsection. Ensures all work to be completed and reported promptly. Assigns staff to maximize efficiency and productivity. Disseminates appropriate information to subordinates. Maintains the computerized Laboratory Information System for the subsection.
  • Prepares microscopic slides from specimens of scrapings, or other exudates and fixes them. Strains and mounts slides to preserve specimen and enhance visibility of cells under the microscope. Studies under the microscope cells of human body to detect evidence of cellular abnormalities including hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions according to established standards and practices. Reports abnormalities to the pathologist.
  • Assists in FNA procedures by evaluating the cellular adequacy of specimens obtained from patients including those obtained in Endoscopy of under radiological guidance (ultrasound and CT)
  • Adherence to College of American Pathologists (CAP) standard CYP.08300 to meet CLIA requirement of total number of slides examined or reviewed in all laboratories during a twenty four (24) hour period
  • Ensures that optimum levels of supplies are available to provide uninterrupted service; maintains an ordering and supply inventory system
  • Assists in development of new methodologies and the evaluation of new equipment. Updates police and procedure manuals in accordance with specified guidelines
  • Maintains quality control of the subsection. Participates in the Quality Assurance programs of the section. Investigates incident reports and implement associated corrective action. Maintains equipment repair logs and equipment operation, maintenance, and repair records of subsection
  • Performs technical duties as needed including weekends, night-shifts, and on call coverage
  • Prepares reports and statistical data as required
  • Participate in and contributes to quality improvement activities
  • Participates in self and other’s education, Training and Development, as applicable
  • Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications Required:

  • Master’s Or Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related field, or an equivalent degree in country of origin required
  • Registration as Cytotechnologist with Certification by Internationally recognized body as AIMLS, FILMS, AIMS, NZIMLT or equivalent  in country of origin 

Experience Required:

  • Four (4) years of experience in Medical Technology or related science
