Ultrasound Technologist I

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Set-up and operate relevant medical imaging equipment in order to carry out ultrasound procedures.

  • Perform ultrasound procedures on patients as requested. Assist physicians with biopsy procedures, guiding biopsy instrument using sonographic techniques. Perform ultrasound procedures, Doppler vascular examinations, abdominal studies and color-flow ultrasound, OB-GYN procedures as required. Utilize accessory equipment such as selective transducers, multi-format cameras, printers, and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) workstations.

  • Perform a variety of complex specialized tasks utilizing ultrasonic high frequency sound waves to detect abnormalities including masses, abscesses, and stones.

  • Ensure images and all required information are available in the PACS as soon as procedures are completed.

  • Involve in developing and reviewing the Medical Imaging department’s policies and procedures.

  • Adhere to established departmental policies, protocols and procedures pertaining to equipment use, patient confidentiality and professional conduct.

  • Provide supervision to junior staff and coordinate daily activities in the ultrasound area.

  • Ensure patients and/or relatives are clearly and fully informed about the nature and extent of the ultrasound procedure to be performed.

  • Provide training and orientation to new employees in the ultrasound area regarding equipment, protocols, policies and procedures.

  • Participate in the Implementation of the Department strategic plan.

  • Participate in the Department’s in-services and lectures for staff and radiology students.

  • Ensure ultimate patient safety and care is provided during Ultrasound procedures. Also, seek to maintain patient confidentiality, rights and privacy at all times.

  • Ensure the appropriate equipment and accessories are used to perform the requested ultrasound procedures. Report equipment faults and errors to the Supervisor and ensure they are withdrawn until rectified.

  • Represent the medical imaging department by attending relevant committees and meetings as delegated by the supervisor.

  • Diligently perform all scheduled tasks, ensure correct patient identification and site verification checks are undertaken for each examination and record preliminary notes and organ measurements for the radiologists.

  • Adhere and ensure all staff follows established international patient safety goals.

  • Keep abreast with current trends in ultrasound technology, ensure all applicable licenses and/or trainings are current, including Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Provide first level of problem solving and support for work related issues. Effectively interact with students and junior staff consistently providing supervision and instructions.

  • Perform other job related duties as required.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Radiological Sciences or related field or equivalent

  • Current certification/registration/license to practice in Ultrasound

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of five (5) years in Ultrasound
