Summary

Responsible for providing expert care for patients with solid tumors and related malignancies, overseeing diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role involves leading multidisciplinary cancer care, supervising junior staff, guiding complex therapies such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted treatments, and contributing to research, education, and quality improvement to ensure the highest standards of patient-centered oncology services.

Education/Qualification:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand. 
      • USA: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT) Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR  Switzerland,
    • Sub-Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience after obtaining the main specialty qualification in United Kingdom (CESR) Portugal, Spain, or Italy
    • Sub-Specialties: Minimum of four (4) years of experience after obtaining the sub-specialty qualification in Portugal, Spain, or Italy.

License:

  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Managerial/Administration

  • Supports, implements, and follows all hospital, departmental, and divisional initiatives, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and productivity/utilization review processes.
  • Assists with scheduling to always ensure adequate oncology service coverage.
  • Attends divisional, cancer board, and multidisciplinary meetings as required.
  • Assists in the recruitment of new oncology medical staff when appropriate.
  • Contributes to strategic planning for oncology services, including resource and equipment needs.
  • Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as assigned by the Division Chief.

Technical
Diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice for oncology. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manages the full spectrum of solid tumor malignancies, from initial diagnosis to survivorship or palliative care.
  • Oversees clinical activities of junior medical staff and assumes responsibility for their patient care.
  • Provides inpatient and outpatient oncology consultations, treatment planning, and follow-up care.
  • Prescribes and monitors systemic cancer therapies, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, hormonal therapy, and immunotherapy.
  • Coordinates diagnostic workups, staging, and imaging with radiology and pathology teams.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary tumor boards to optimize individualized patient care plans.
  • Works closely with surgical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, and supportive services.
  • Accepts referrals from primary care, emergency, other specialties, and external facilities.
  • Participates in on-call duties, including urgent consults for oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome, spinal cord compression, or febrile neutropenia.
  • Documents all clinical information clearly and promptly according to hospital policies.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and families about diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment options.

Quality & Safety

  • Leads or participates in oncology-specific quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supports regular audits on cancer outcomes, treatment safety, and protocol compliance.
  • Encourages evidence-based, guideline-compliant oncology practice.
  • Participates in the reporting and investigation of adverse treatment events.

Education

  • Teaches, mentors, and supervises junior doctors, residents, and fellows in oncology.
  • Facilitates training on cancer diagnosis, systemic therapy, and supportive care.
  • Maintains commitment to Continued Medical Education (CME) through conferences and workshops.
  • Participates in oncology-related clinical research and publication.
  • Stays current with the latest literature, guidelines, and advancements in cancer care.
