Summary
As a Senior Consultant in Orthopedics, you will be one of the most experienced physicians in the department, responsible for overseeing clinical care, surgical services, and the development of junior doctors. You will provide leadership in service planning, quality improvement, and academic growth, while maintaining a direct role in complex surgical and trauma cases. Beyond patient care, you will shape the future of orthopedic services at HMC through mentorship, research, and innovation. Education/Qualifications Required:
Training in NHS or North American – Specialized in Trauma and Upper limb
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) – Orthopedic Surgery
- UK & Ireland: CCT in Orthopedic Medicine and GMC Specialist Register
- Australia & New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) – Orthopedic Surgery
- Western Europe: Equivalent board certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum (5) years of experience as a Consultant in Orthopedics
License:
- Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Lead orthopedic clinical services across elective and emergency care, ensuring the highest standards of patient outcomes.
- Oversee Consultants, Specialists, and Residents, providing guidance and final approval on complex cases and surgical decisions.
- Drive departmental service development, including planning, staffing, and budgeting in collaboration with the Section Head and Department Chair.
- Supervise advanced orthopedic surgeries and provide subspecialty expertise in trauma, spine, sports medicine, or joint reconstruction.
- Develop and implement clinical policies, guidelines, and best practices in Orthopedic Surgery.
- Mentor and train junior doctors, residents, and fellows, fostering academic and professional growth.
- Contribute to research, publications, and innovation within HMC’s Academic Health System.
- Participate in national and international collaborations, conferences, and academic networks.
- Lead audits, quality assurance projects, and initiatives to improve patient safety and service efficiency.
- Fulfill on-call leadership responsibilities for emergency and trauma services
