Summary
Responsible for providing specialized anesthesia care for patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgeries. Ensures optimal patient safety and comfort through perioperative care, including preoperative assessment, intraoperative management, and postoperative recovery. Works closely with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes.
Education / Qualification Required:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) – Anesthesiology
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST in Anesthesia
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum Five (5) years experience post qualification.
- Cardiothoracic Anesthesia
- Pediatric and congenital heart disease surgery
- Adult cardiac surgery (e.g. high-risk redo surgery, surgery for thoracic aorta)
- Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs)
- Robotic cardiac surgery (valve replacement/repair, VAD placement, and heart transplant)
- Heart, lung, and combined heart-lung transplantation
- Interventional cardiology procedures (TAVR, MitraClip, Triclip, etc.)
- Diagnostic and interventional pediatric cardiology procedures (heart defect device-closure, PPVI, Fontan fenestration closure)
- Electrophysiology and cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED)
- Intra-operative echocardiography: TEE certificate/experience is an essential requirement
- Laparoscopic thoracic procedures
License:
Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provides high-quality patient care in all aspects of Anesthesiology according to approved clinical privileges.
- Provides consultation (inpatient and emergency room) upon request and responds within the prescribed timeframe per Organization policy.
- Ensures timely completion, accuracy, and legibility of medical records.
- Provides on-call service, ensuring availability and response time within the prescribed timeframe.
- Conducts daily morning rounds to identify patients ready for transfer/discharge.
- Ensures that transfer/discharge orders are written 24 hours prior to discharge/transfer.
- Performs any other clinical responsibilities related to the specialty, as assigned.
Academic Responsibilities
- Provides orientation, bedside training, and supervision to junior staff.
- Participates in the department’s educational activities and training programs.
- Attends national and international medical conferences.
- Maintains and enhances professional knowledge and continuing education requirements.
Research Responsibilities
- Participates in clinical, basic, and translational research projects in line with Research Advisory Council Policy.
- Contributes to advancing knowledge, improving postgraduate education quality, and enhancing the Organization’s national and international recognition.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Undertakes administrative duties assigned by the Head of Section or Chairman.
- Participates in mandatory departmental activities and serves on committees as required.
- Assists in developing and implementing techniques and practices to maximize resource utilization.
- Adheres to Organization and medical staff bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies.
- Keeps updated on policy changes.
- Follows all Organization-related policies and procedures.
- Participates in self-education and training of others.
