Qualifications Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of required period of training

  • Specialty and sub-specialty with American Board certification or equivalent

  • Membership or fellowship status in United Kingdom or Canada or equivalent

Experience Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of required period of training, specialty and sub-specialty with Board certification, membership or fellowship status in the United Kingdom or Canada, or equivalent. Sub specialty training and certification are required

  • Independent clinical experience of at least (10) years after board certification

  • Administrative experience as Chairman/Deputy Chairman/Head of Medical Service or similar position should be a minimum of (5) years

  • Publication records must be original articles in peer-reviewed journals with minimum of (10) publication

  • Must have teaching and research accomplishments in a reputable university


  • Develops the Department Strategic Plan and Goals and Objectives in conformance with the overall strategic plan of MCO and provides quarterly reports on the progress of the Goals and Objectives.

  • Organizes, supervises, monitors and maintains clinical services and programs to provide quality patient care.

  • Ensures adequate and uninterrupted supervision of the Department at all times.

  • Performs clinical duties and actively engages in clinical practice.

  • Is responsible for the selection, recruitment and retention of competent professional staff in the department through effective use of ongoing credentialing, review of privileges and assessment of all staff in the Department. Evaluates adequacy of staffing. Ensures that there exist appropriate Departmental mechanisms and processes to provide physician coverage at all times.

  • Collaborates with Nursing, Clinical Services, Administration, and Support Services in the provision of patient care.

  • Is responsible for the preparation and management of the annual operating budget of the Department and for the efficient and cost effective operation of the Department within allocated resources in accordance with outcome measures defined by MCO.

  • Prepares the annual Capital Equipment budget for the medical and clinical units associated with the Department, in conjunction with Nursing Affairs and Clinical Services where applicable.

  • Conducts annual evaluation reports of Department staff, in consultation with Section Heads where applicable, and makes recommendations to the Deputy for MCO.

  • Is responsible for the overall quality of patient care. Supports and promotes the implementation of Quality Improvement Programs.

  • Is responsible for enforcing and monitoring adherence of all members of his Department to the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.

  • Chairs regular departmental staff meetings to review and discuss patient care, policies, education, research, and administrative activities.

  • Participates as a member of the Medical Advisory Council.

  • Ensures optimal bed and clinic utilization in his Department.

  • Recommends appointment of Deputy Chairman(en), Heads of Sections, and Program Directors in his Department.

  • Establishes guidelines for granting of clinical privileges; reviews credentials of new applicants to Medical Staff and makes recommendations regarding appointment and clinical privileges; and monitors adherence of Department members to granted clinical privileges. Recommends to the Executive Director, MCO immediate modification of clinical privileges for members of his Department whenever necessary to ensure patient safety.

  • Promotes the provision of Postgraduate Training Programs, Continuing Medical Education activities, and other required educational and training courses; and ensures the availability of mechanisms for evaluating and reporting such activities.

  • Promotes medical research initiatives in his Department in compliance with the guidelines of the Research Advisory Council.

  • Acts as the link through which all departmental communications and transactions.

  • Performs other duties, responsibilities and assignments as may be requested by the Executive Director, MCO.

  • Participates in self and other' education, training and development, as applicable.

  • Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.

  • Will undertake departmental specific duties and responsibilities.
