Dental Assistant

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Prepares Dental operatory for each procedure using aseptic techniques. Utilizes hospital accepted infection control, cross contamination, disinfection, sterilization and hand washing procedures.

  • Monitoring daily schedule for cancelations, no shows, and arrival times, for best slot utilization.

  • Escorts patients to treatment rooms. Seats and prepares patient for dental treatment.

  • Reviews annually updated medical and dental history. Recognize health conditions and medications that impact patient care. Identify patients at risk for medical emergency and appropriately manage pre-meds and lab-work.

  • Provide accurate, consistent and complete documentation of dental treatment plans, sequence, periodontal charting, dental histories, treatment rendered, referrals, and conditions, and disease diagnosis by the dentist. Ensure confidentiality

  • Responsible for monitoring daily schedule of assigned clinic. Ensures clinic flow is maintained.

  • Practices 4-Handed Dentistry techniques while assisting dentist during general or specialized procedures. Performs specific procedures and expanded functions as qualified for and required in specialized clinics

  • Maintains instruments and stock levels of supplies in operatory

  • Obtain, develop, mount and store intraoral and extraoral diagnostic quality dental radiographs as ordered by Dentist. Recognized anatomical anomalies. Retrieves and filed dental x-ray files.

  • Preparation of local anaesthetic injections. Preparation & administration of topical anaesthetic gel.

  • Maintains daily & weekly maintenance of equipment and handpieces.

  • Enters clinical and statistical data into the computer as required.

  • Participates in hospital wide research and health education activities to promote oral and general health awareness. Analyze and apply published information to the practice of dental hygiene

  • Maintains adequate supplies in the operatory. Sharpen and recognize when to correctly dispose of hand instruments. Perform daily and weekly maintenance of equipment and handpieces.

  • Collect, enter and analyze hygiene statistical data to document and study past hygiene practices.

  • Obtain, develop, mount and store intraoral and extraoral diagnostic quality dental radiographs as ordered by Dentist. Recognize anatomical anomalies. Retrieves and files dental x-ray files.

  • Participates in training and precepting of SCDP hygiene staff, and interns.

  • Participates in performance improvement activities.

  • Participates in hospital wide quality assessment activities.

  • Participates in training and precepting of new dental assistants, interns and trainees.

  • Provides and annual educational in-service activity for Dental Clinic staff

  • Participation in hospital wide performance improvement activities

  • Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures

  • Participates in self and other’s education, training and development, as applicable.

  • Performs any other related duties as assigned

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree/Associates Degree/Diploma in a Dental related discipline

  • Registered Dental Assistant or Certified Dental Assistant with Registration or Certification

Experience Required:

  • Three (3) years dental assisting and full registration or certification required

  • OR for Saudi Dental Assistants, successful completion of the Dental Assistant SCDP (Saudi Career Development Program)
