Director of Clinical Imaging Support Services

Common Responsibilities

  • Supports the Assistant Executive Director of Clinical Imaging in delivering the business plan by monitoring clinical imaging’s performance and taking corrective action where necessary

  • Acts as the central management lead for service improvement projects and/or programs for clinical imaging where required

  • Holds budget management responsibility for the clinical imaging capex budget

  • Ensure that all clinical imaging support service operations are compliant with prescribed departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and strategic values

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of direct subordinates

  • Consolidate and submit performance reports to Management

Specific Responsibilities

Day to day operational management

  • Direct and oversee clinical imaging support service operations including clinical imaging engineering and equipment, medical physics, clinical imaging projects and the appointment centre

  • Ensure that all Clinical Imaging equipment is maintained and is fit for purpose

  • Oversee the management of the appointment center and performance against waiting list targets

  • Monitor the Clinical Imaging department’s performance against established performance metrics and submit monthly performance reports to the AED of Clinical Imaging

  • Consult and collaborate with the Finance Business Partner, Human Resources Business Partner, Operational Directors and the Director of Informatics to ensure integration of strategic financial objectives, HR objectives, operational performance and technological performance

  • Ensure both the clinical imaging operational and physician leadership has the departmental dashboard information they require to lead their respective areas

  • Ensure risk assessments are regularly undertaken in areas of responsibility. Develop and implement plans to mitigate these risks and escalate risks to the AED of Clinical Imaging where necessary

  • Provide project management support to peers in Clinical Imaging

Service Development

  • Evaluate current technological, paper flow and human resource deployment systems by undertaking section-by-section assessments of the strengths and weaknesses of current practices to pinpoint opportunities for enhancing service provision

  • Collaborate with the AED of Clinical Imaging, Clinical Imaging Physicians and Director peers to establish performance metrics and management standards covering quality of patient care, patient safety, productivity, cost effectiveness, and employee performance in line with Lean Methodologies for the Clinical Imaging department

  • Establish data collection mechanisms for measuring key performance indictors

Financial and Resource Management

  • Prepare and monitor operating budgets and necessary capital requirements for both the department’s clinical and non-clinical operations in liaison with the Finance Business Partner

  • Support Director peers in monitoring their activity and income against operational budgets

  • Work alongside the Finance Business Partner to support operational and clinical managers in capacity and demand analysis

  • Oversee the clinical imaging equipment department’s management of the capital equipment inventory, renovation and equipment service maintenance records

  • Responsible for the monthly variance reporting for revenue and expenses in associated general ledger accounts in liaison with the Finance Business Partner

  • Identify and recommend means to the Assistant Executive Director for improving operating costs for clinical imaging

  • Authorize major expenditures of supplies and equipment where applicable

  • Support the Assistant Executive Director of Clinical Imaging with the preparation of business cases for new Clinical Imaging projects as part of the annual budget preparation cycle

  • Support the AED of Clinical Imaging in reviewing the progress of approved projects

  • Collaborate with the various clinical imaging sub departments and associated departments to connect and focus organizational resources ensuring organizational cohesion, information sharing and problem solving.

Leadership and Human Resource Management

  • Provide leadership and line manage direct reports

  • Define and agree clear objectives for each direct report to ensure that they understand their roles and responsibilities within the service, and measure their performance against these objectives as part of the appraisal process

  • Regularly appraise direct reports performance, and coach them as appropriate to maximize their performance

  • Facilitate the professional development of direct reports, and identify any training and development needs and the associated suitable development opportunity in liaison with the HR Business Partner

  • Foster and encourage a learning culture environment

  • Work with the HR Business Partner to contribute to workforce plans which ensure that the clinical imaging support services section is adequately resourced with appropriately trained staff at all times through recruitment, talent management, and succession planning practices

  • Effectively induct new direct reports into the department in accordance with HMC policies

Education/Qualifications Required:

Minimum Education: Bachelor degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or a related field

Certification/licensure from country of origin (if applicable)

Experience Required:

Minimum Experience: 8 years healthcare management experience with at least 2 of the 8 years at a senior level. Must have at least 2 years demonstrable experience of budget preparation and management, business planning, and management of significant healthcare projects.

Language Skills: Advanced English is essential. An English and Arabic speaker is preferred.

Computer Skills: High level IT skills including Microsoft Office. Must have a broad level understanding of healthcare ICT solutions, and preferably clinical imaging ICT systems.
