Summary

Responsible to provide patient care, education and training for Associate Consultants and Assistan Consultants, Family Medicine residents, National Guard physicians, supervise clinics, represent and prmote primary care, monitor quality assurance, undertake clinical research, self education, and participate in on-call for the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Education / Qualification Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
      • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum Three (3) years after board / equivalence certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
  • Minimum Five (5) years after board / equivalence certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).

License:

Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care

  • Spend at least 70% time in direct patient care
  • Participate in on-call schedule

Supervision of Associate Consultants, Assistant Consultants and Staff Physicians

  • Be available for consultation about clinical cases
  • Monitor Associate Consultants delivery of care, clinical judgement, patient management, record keeping.
  • Education, both formal and informal

Aministration of Clinics

  • Day-to-day management of clinics and clinic programs.
  • Expand areas of care (antenatal care, management of chronics illnes, management of acute illness, community participation)
  • Ensure equipment is satisfactory for clinical needs.
  • Investigate and act on complaints.

Department Activities

  • Attend and contribute to deparmental meetings
  • Represent the department on hospital committees
  • Participate in departmental administrative and schedule activities as required

Promote Primary Care

  • Liase with hospital to express needs of primary care and play role in fulfilling needs.
  • Participate in hospital rounds
  • National Guard activities: assistant in organization and participate in National Guard educationa activities.

Family Medicine Residency Program

  • Assist in the development and supervision of the program
  • Resident teaching: prepare residents to write Arab and Saudi Boards examinations, pepare and conduct seminars, clinical supervision

Quality Assurance (in conjuction with CQI)

  • Audit and upgrade delivery of care at clinics.
  • Develop and monitor clinical practice guidelines

Research

  • Clinical research in primary care: disease registry, clinical trials, morbidity data collection

Self-Education

  • Attend conferences and disseminate information
  • Attend lecture and rounds
  • Independent learning
  • Maintain accreditation
