Summary

Within the mission, vision, and values of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs, the Hematopathology Consultant provides specialized diagnostic services in the interpretation of blood, bone marrow, and lymphoid tissue specimens. Responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, contributing to the training and education of medical staff, engaging in clinical research, and ensuring adherence to best practices in the field of hematopathology.

Education/Qualifications Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
      • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum Three (3) years after board/equivalent certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
  • Minimum Five (5) years after board/equivalent certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).

License:

Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose hematologic diseases using morphology, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, cytogenetics, and molecular techniques.
  • Interpret bone marrow biopsies, peripheral blood smears, lymph node and other tissue biopsies related to hematologic disorders.
  • Issue integrated, comprehensive pathology reports in a timely manner.
  • Provide expert consultations to clinical teams on complex hematopathology cases.
  • Collaborate with Hematology, Oncology, Transfusion Medicine, and Laboratory departments for multidisciplinary care.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and support laboratory accreditation standards.
  • Supervise and train residents and junior staff in Hematopathology.
  • Lead or participate in educational rounds, workshops, and case discussions.
  • Stay current with advancements in Hematopathology through ongoing CME.
  • Conduct and contribute to clinical and laboratory-based research in Hematology.
  • Present research findings at local and international conferences.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and collaborate with research institutions.
  • Serve on departmental and hospital committees (e.g., tumor board, quality improvement).
  • Develop and update diagnostic protocols and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and national accreditation standards.
  • Mentor junior consultants and foster a collaborative working environment.
