Summary
The purpose of this role is to provide specialist clinical care in Interventional Pulmonology across HMC facilities, supporting the delivery of high quality, evidence based patient care. The Consultant manages a broad range of interventional pulmonology cases.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) – Interventional Pulmonology
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) – Interventional Pulmonology
- UK & Ireland: CCT in Interventional Pulmonology and GMC Specialist Register
- Australia & New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) – Interventional Pulmonology
- Western Europe: Equivalent board certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Experience Post-Qualifications:
Minimum Three (3) years after board/equivalent certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES) and other above listed countries.
Minimum One (1) year experience at Public/ Government Hospital or Teaching / Academic institution
License:
- Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Provide specialist consultation in Interventional Pulmonology and Pulmonary Medicine for inpatients and outpatients across HMC facilities.
- Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with complex airway, pleural, and pulmonary disorders requiring advanced diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy.
- Perform and interpret procedures including flexible and rigid bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), navigational bronchoscopy, airway stenting, tumor debulking, and pleural interventions.
- Provide timely clinical advice to referring teams including critical care, oncology, thoracic surgery, internal medicine, and emergency medicine services.
- Recommend and interpret appropriate pulmonary function tests, imaging studies, bronchoscopic findings, and pathology results.
- Develop individualized treatment plans for patients with lung nodules, mediastinal lymphadenopathy, central airway obstruction, pleural effusions, and suspected thoracic malignancies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and thoracic oncology case discussions.
- Maintain accurate, clear, and timely clinical documentation in line with HMC standards.
- Participate in on call rosters and provide emergency Interventional Pulmonology and Pulmonary Medicine coverage as required.
- Engage in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes and service delivery.
- Supervise and support junior doctors, fellows, and trainees in clinical practice and procedural skills.
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities.
- Maintain licensure, continuing professional development, and ethical standards in line with HMC and national regulatory requirements.
