Manager, Perfusion

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Responsible for the overall quality of patient care including the nature and scope of clinical services provided

  • Responsible for the efficient and cost effective operation of Perfusion Section and School within the allocated resources in accordance with outcome performance measurements programs and evaluation mechanisms

  • Liaises with Training and Development regarding student application, placement, course curriculum, class lecturers, administrative and financial concerns of the Perfusion School

  • In consultation with the Head, Section of Cardiac Surgery carried out both short and long range operations to ensure the accomplishment of the clinical, financial and administrative objectives of the Perfusion Team

  • Develops, implements and revises perfusion Policy and Procedures. Ensures that the perfusion quality assurance programs meets and/or exceeds JCIA standards and/or any other applicable standards as required

  • Manages the quality and competency of the Perfusion staff through effective use of ongoing educational workshops, Clinical Pathways skill based and QI reviews

  • Maintains operational statistics and provide reports as may be required by the Head, Section of Cardiac Surgery and the Director, Heart Centre

  • Evaluates employees performance and counsels employees to improve performance. Makes recommendations for salary increase and promotions and initiates disciplinary actions. Reviews employment applications, interviews candidates and coordinates the recruitment and hiring with Employment Services, recruitment agencies to the Director,

  • Heart Centre through the Head Section and Cardiac Surgery

  • Plans staffing patterns and schedules based on patient needs ensuring adequate coverage for the provision of required services within the budget allocation

  • Evaluates equipment and makes recommendations regarding purchases, upgrades and replacements. Ensures that all staff follows safe work practices. Liaises with Clinical

  • Engineering, Logistic Services and outside vendors in the procurement, replamcement and upgrades of equipment and supplies. Monitors supply inventory and  keeps updated statistical records of supply usage

  • Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures

  • Participates in self and other’ education, training and development as applicable

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Allied Health

  • Certificate from accredited Perfusion Technology Training Program

Experience Required:

  • Five (5) years’ experience as a certified Perfusionist plus two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity
