Summary
Provides support and education to staff and patients in the Nurse Coordinator Pediatric Clinic area.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience Post Post-Qualifications:
- Four (4) years of experience is required
- One (1) year of Nurse Coordinator experience is required
License:
- Current and in good Standing Nursing License/Registration (RN) to practice in country of residence
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate staff and patient activities and act as resource throughout the shift to ensure adequate nursing and resources for patient care. Demonstrate initiative in the performance of duties.
- Demonstrate knowledge and clinical skills appropriate to the area. Maintain a high visibility (100% clinical presence) either through the direct provision or coordination of patient care. Complete assigned responsibilities within established hospital, divisional and unit specific guidelines, policies and procedures, standards and protocols.
- Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills when interacting with patients/families, other health care team members and staff of other departments. Escalate issues and concerns to the Nurse Manager in a timely manner.
- Participate in teaching and mentoring of Nursing, Medical and Paramedical Students, Interns and Residents.
- Conduct and assess patient/family educational needs, readiness and discharge planning needs, utilizing appropriate resources. Provide patient/family education as required. Advocate for excellence in patient care and for patient’s rights.
- Participate in quality improvement processes and activities within the unit, leading quality action teams as required. Participate actively in Nursing and/or hospital committees and work groups.
- Identify areas where staff clinical knowledge and skills needs development and escalate practice concerns to Nurse Manager in a timely manner.
- Ensure full compliance with all hospital safety precautions. Take direct and appropriate action in urgent and emergency situations. Conduct environmental rounds, reinforce infection control practices and report any concerns regarding supplies and equipment maintenance.
- Maintain all records pertaining to the operation of the area of assignment and generate reports as required.
- Serve as a professional role model and resource person to nursing staff. Demonstrate respect, compassion and cultural sensitivity to patients/families, other hospital employees, students and faculty. Assume responsibilities for own professional growth, decisions and actions.
- Perform other duties as assigned
