Responsible for development and managing an oncology rehabilitation service at CCAD. This is a senior position where you will be expected to start an oncology service that spans the full continuum of care from acute care to outpatients in the planning and delivery of a cancer exercise program in conjunction with multiple stakeholders with the support of the rehabilitation leadership team. The role includes the clinical requirement to assess and treat patients with the addition of service development and implementation.

Education / Qualification Required:

  • Master’s in Rehabilitation Services or relevant clinical master’s in related field is preferred (will reduce one (1) year from the required years of experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy
  • Post graduate qualifications in oncology is preferred
  • Certifications in service development or quality or continuous improvement preferred

Experience Post Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years post graduate experience as a Physiotherapist in acute and outpatient rehabilitative care
  • Minimum of two (2) years post graduate experience as a Physiotherapist treating oncology patients
  • Minimum of two (2) years-experience in service development and / or organization wide quality project work
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and procedures for diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of physical dysfunctions


Valid and in a good standing License in current country of practice.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop an oncology service that is in alignment within the current business and organizational priorities
  • Support the rehab leadership in developing an oncology service from infancy to maturity
  • Work effectively under pressure by balancing the clinical caseload of oncology patients with service development, monitoring and expansion
  • Develop, locate and implement oncology specific key performance indicators to demonstrate clinical impact and service performance
  • Create, plan and deliver oncological education material for physical therapists and exercise physiologists in terms of assessment, treatment and clinical outcome measures
  • Provide progress report to rehabilitation manager that outlines opportunities and challenges with clear plan of ownership of solutions
  • Develops professional relationships within rehabilitation management and external stakeholders to generate buy-in to service plan and referral systems
  • Develops close relationships with Oncology physicians that builds trust, confidence and support for our oncology rehabilitation program
  • Develops realistic and complementary plans for service excellence and program adherence for the oncology population
  • Implements process flows improvements for safer and more efficient patient care across the areas they lead
  • Performs an evaluation on each patient to determine appropriate problems to be addressed
  • Be able to assess and treat oncology patients throughout all phases of their oncology care and throughout the continuum of care
  • Analyzes and interprets patient’s needs, based on medical history, x-rays, tests and evaluation
  • Establishes treatment goals and formulates a treatment plan based on the patient evaluation
  • Administers treatment program and utilizes skilled techniques to provide treatment
  • Monitors patient’s medical status, reviews and revises treatment plans as necessary as treatment plan progresses
  • Directs and supervises the activities of support personnel and maintains responsibility for all aspects of patient care
  • Educates patients and their families about the patient’s functional status, appropriate preventative and therapeutic exercises, adaptive equipment and modalities for post-discharge care
  • Documents required and pertinent information in patient’s medical record
  • Reviews and co-signs progress notes written by physical therapy assistants
  • Participates in multidisciplinary management of patients, ensures coordination of treatment goals and discharge planning
  • Completes required department forms accurately and in a timely manner
  • Participates in the supervision of students assigned to clinical rotation and/or staff development programs
  • Performs related duties as assigned
  • Leads educational and training programs for employees regarding equipment usage, new protocols, patient safety, and career development
  • Provides instruction and mentoring to new hires
