
Psychiatry Consultant
Summary
Within the mission, vision, and values of Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs, the Consultant in Psychiatry provides specialized mental health care, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of psychiatric disorders. The consultant is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, supervising and training medical staff, participating in research activities, and contributing to the continuous improvement of mental health services.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum Three (3) years after board/equivalent certification in Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
- Minimum Five (5) years after board/equivalent certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).
License:
Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and manage a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and personality disorders.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, incorporating pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions.
- Supervise and mentor Associate Consultants, Assistant Consultants, residents, and medical students in psychiatric assessment and treatment.
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care, including risk assessment and management of suicidal or violent patients.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams, including psychologists, social workers, and psychiatric nurses, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations for patients referred from other specialties and provide expert consultations.
- Participate in hospital-wide mental health initiatives, including awareness programs and early intervention strategies.
- Engage in research and academic activities to advance psychiatric knowledge and improve clinical outcomes.
- Ensure adherence to ethical and legal standards in psychiatric practice, including patient confidentiality and informed consent.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and implement evidence-based practices in psychiatric care.
