Job Speciality: Safety Management Department

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Plans, coordinates and administers policies and procedures as directed by Health Affairs and in conjunction with all aspects of Safety Management activities

  • Reviews, manages and carries out the necessary functional planning, budgeting and scheduling for the department and maintains records and monitors accordingly

  • Directs all technical and administrative activities of the Safety Management department in accordance with the approved APP’s of NGHA and IPP’s of Support Services

  • Plans, develops and implements short and long term strategic goals for the development and direction of the department in cooperation with the higher management. Continually seeks opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and improve department credibility

  • Plans, develops, implements and checks compliance of all activities in the organization relating to safety, security, hazardous materials/waste management, accident and incident prevention and investigation, emergency preparedness, hazard identification, evaluation and control and associated training, risk education strategies for clinical engineering and utilities and maintenance, construction and renovation

  • Plans, coordinates and implements the NGHA Safety Management Plan throughout the organization through auditable, centralized and local processes in all services provided

  • Manages the finalized implements and approved systems, such as, Interim Life Safety measures (ILSM) for new constructions and renovations; recommends standards for new project plans in compliance with Life Safety Code 101 (LSC 101).

  • Ensures Safety Management Department’s activities meet with and integrate with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies, JCI, Occupational Safety and general duty of care

  • Liaises with other functional/departmental directors and managers to ensure that they understand all aspects and needs of Safety Management, and to ensure they are fully informed of Safety Management department objectives purposes and achievements

  • Develops standards safety performance indicators, evaluates and monitors performance and initatiates or makes recommendations for corrective actions

  • Plans, directs and evaluates safety programs for all hospital staff and provides related training to the identigies sections and assigns staff accordingly

  • Conducts safety audits to identify areas for improvement and reduce risks throughout NGHA; submit plan of recommended correction actions and proposed strategies to reduce the risks

  • Designs and implements regulatory data collection processes and establishes data reporting

  • Coordinates the activities of the department as they relate to the activities of other divisions and departments in the hospital

  • Prepares safety and departmental related reports for senior management such as findings from safety investigations, calculations for cost of accidents, incidents and near-misses, identifies opportunities/priorities/trends to prevent accidents, incidents and near-misses.

  • Develops, implements and maintains readiness to respond appropriates to major disaster events

  • Develops and implements the following programs for the assigned area: Safe and Sustainable Purchasing Program and Safe & Sustainable Building Program

  • Maintains awareness and expertise of assigned area through theoretical and professional knowledge of new developments in the field that has a potential value and application in the organization

  • Responsible for staff management related issues, for example, performance evaluations, recruitment and selection staff orientation and training

  • Performs other job related duties as required

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor Degree in in Safety Science/Environmental Science or equivalent from accredited college or university

  • Licenses Safety Practitioner of Safety Consultant, preferred

  • Master’s Degree in related discipline, preferred

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience including four (4) years’ experience at supervisory level in Safety Management within a reputable professional organization or in the health care sector

  • Experience of Safety Management in a hospital of 350 beds or more, preferred

  • Managerial level experience in health care facilities, preferred

Special Skills Required:

  • Arabic Language Skills:  Preferred

  • English Language Skills: Essential

  • Computer Skills: Level II, Essential
