Senior Charge Midwife Labor and Delivery

Responsible to practice at a high level of autonomy and accountability in collaboration with oncologists and the inter-professional Health-care team to provide a continuum of patient care from prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, palliation, bereavement and survivorship

Education / Qualification Required:

  • BS Degree in Nursing
  • Associate Degree/Diploma in Nursing


  • Minimum Six (6) years of experience 
  • Minimum Four (4) years of experience in a Charge Nurse, Head Nurse of Assistant Head Nurse position preferred and or demonstrates leadership qualities during relief Charge Nurse assignment


Valid and in a good Standing License in current country of practice

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice

  • Ensures provision and coordination of patient care activities are within established hospital, division and unit specific guidelines, policies and procedures, standards and protocols, etc.
  • Assumes responsibility for the management of medically uncomplicated pregnant women in the antenatal, intraportal and postpartum periods, as ordered by the physician
  • Conducts histories, physical assessments and routine antenatal examinations
  • Conducts obstetrical assessments and vaginal examinations during the labor process
  • Applies internal and external fetal monitors and correctly interprets CTG readings
  • Performs artificial rupture of membranes
  • Conducts initial assessment and care of newborn
  • Takes direct and appropriate action in urgent and emergency situations
  • Documents all assessments and cares provides in a concise, accurate and complete manner in the patient chart
  • Communicates patient related information to other health care team members in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates effective communication and collaborative skills when interacting with patients/families, other healthcare team members and members of other departments


  • Plans, organizes, direct and evaluates the delivery of patient care

Education & Research

  • Assists with the orientation and evaluation of new staff
  • Participate in teaching and mentoring of nursing, Medical and Paramedical students, Interns and Residents


  • Anticipates and acts to maintain a safe environment
  • Works with health care team members in activities designed for the improvement of patient care outcomes
  • Complies with and participates in Quality Improvement processes and activities
  • Complies with hospital infection control and safety protocols
  • Performs other job related duties as required
