Summary

Within the mission, vision and values of King Fahad Military Medical Complex, in close collaboration with medical and other healthcare team members demonstrates advanced nursing knowledge and applies this knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis, delivery and design of nursing care and interventions in the Medical Unit. 

Education / Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • OR Associate Degree/Diploma or country equivalent + Bachelor’s in Nursing related field

Experience:

  • Experience from North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience post-qualification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in Surgical ICU or a related specialty.

License:

Current and in good Standing Nursing License/Registration (RN) to practice in country of residence

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations in the Surgical ICU, ensuring optimal staffing, resource allocation, and workflow coordination for patient care.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clinical and administrative matters within the unit, addressing and resolving issues promptly.
  • Supervise nursing staff, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure high standards of clinical performance and patient care.
  • Monitor patient assignments, ensuring appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios and equitable distribution of workload among team members.
  • Conduct and oversee patient assessments, prioritizing care based on acuity and individual needs.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for critically ill surgical patients.
  • Provide advanced clinical expertise and act as a resource for complex patient care situations, including handling emergencies and critical decisions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, staffing, and unit activities in compliance with hospital policies and standards.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, safety guidelines, and best practices within the Surgical ICU.
  • Participate in staff performance evaluations, identifying areas for improvement and facilitating professional development opportunities.
  • Lead shift handovers and ensure effective communication between shifts to maintain continuity of care.
  • Advocate for patients and families, addressing concerns and ensuring a patient-centered approach to care.
  • Monitor the use of medical equipment and supplies, reporting any malfunctions and ensuring availability for patient care.
  • Facilitate ongoing education and training for nursing staff, including updates on evidence-based practices, procedures, and unit protocols.
  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and research projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and unit efficiency.
  • Support the Nurse Manager by contributing to policy development, strategic planning, and operational improvements for the Surgical ICU.
  • Assist in the onboarding and orientation of new staff, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence, compassion, and respect in all interactions with patients, families, and team members.
  • Handle conflicts or challenges within the team professionally and efficiently, promoting a positive work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital regulations, accreditation standards, and legal requirements in the delivery of patient care.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support the unit and hospital’s operational needs.
