Summary

Responsible for diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases of the upper digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine (duodenum)Responsible to perform procedures like upper endoscopy (EGD) and upper GI series to visualize the upper GI tract and identify conditions like acid reflux, ulcers, and cancers. 

Education / Qualification Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
      • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum Three (3) years after board / equivalence certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
  • Minimum Five (5) years after board / equivalence certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).

License:

Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based patient care in all aspects of Upper Gastroenterology, within the scope of granted clinical privileges.
  • Provides consultation  upon request and responds in a timely manner within the prescribed timeframe as outlined in Organization policy.
  • Responsible for the timely completion, competencies, accuracy and eligibility of the medical record.
  • Provides on-call service and ensures availability and response time within the prescribed timeframe in accordance with Organization policy
  • Performs any other clinical responsibilities related to Gastroenterology, as assigned.

Academic Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical instruction to medical interns, residents, and fellows in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Actively engage in departmental teaching activities, including case discussions, journal clubs, and clinical conferences.
  • Represent the department at national and international medical conferences and symposia, contributing to the dissemination of clinical and academic expertise.
  • Maintain licensure and fulfill ongoing continuing medical education (CME) requirements to stay current with advances in gastroenterology.

Research Responsibilities

  • Participates in clinical, basic and translational research projects in accordance with Research Advisory Council Policy in order to advance knowledge, improve the quality of post graduate education and contribute to the national and international recognition of Hospital

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Undertakes the administrative duties assigned by Head of Section or Chairman.
  • Participates in all mandatory departmental activities and serves on Departmental and Organization committees and other administrative functions, as required.
  • Assists the department in the development and implementation of techniques and practices that help to maximize the utilization of all resources within the department and across the Organization.
  • Abides by the current Organization and medical staff bylaws, all relevant rules, regulations and policies and keeps updated of any changes that might occur.
  • Follows all Organization-related policies and procedures.
  • Participates in self-and others’ education, training and development as applicable.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
