Summary

Responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of patients with epilepsy and related neurological disorders. The role includes providing expert clinical care, leading epilepsy services, contributing to multidisciplinary teams, and participating in the development of specialized programs such as epilepsy surgery, neurophysiology, and video EEG monitoring.

Education/Qualifications Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
      • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) with a focus of epilepsy
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum Three (3) years after board/equivalent certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
  • Minimum Five (5) years after board/equivalent certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).
  • Strong experience in EEG interpretation, seizure management, and epilepsy surgery evaluation.

License:

Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical care to patients with epilepsy, seizure disorders, and related neurological conditions.
  • Lead and manage specialized epilepsy clinics and inpatient services.
  • Interpret EEGs, video-EEG monitoring, and other neurophysiological tests.
  • Collaborate with neurosurgery, neuroradiology, and other specialties for epilepsy surgery evaluations.
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and medical students.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for case discussions and care planning.
  • Support and develop community and outreach epilepsy services, including patient education and counseling.
  • Engage in research and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough clinical documentation in compliance with hospital standards.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in epilepsy diagnosis and treatment.
