Summary

The Staff Nurse , provides professional nursing care in accordance with the mission, vision and values of King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre.

Working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals, the nurse assesses patients, plans and delivers appropriate nursing care, monitors clinical progress and responds effectively to changes in patients’ conditions.

Education/Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • The nursing degree must have been completed through classroom-based study. Online or distance-learning nursing degrees are not accepted.
  • Must meet Saudi Commission for Health Specialties classification and registration requirements for Nurse Specialist.

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years of current, full-time clinical experience following completion of the nursing qualification.
  • Current experience must be in an acute-care hospital.
  • Current clinical experience in OBGYN or Inpatient Medical-Surgical Unit.
  • Current nursing experience must be from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.

License:

  • Current and good-standing Registered Nurse license or registration permitting practice in the candidate’s country of residence.
  • Must hold current professional nursing license from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.
  • Perform maternal assessments, including vital signs, pain assessment, physical assessment, and evaluation of the patient’s overall condition.
  • Monitor fetal well-being using electronic fetal monitoring and other appropriate methods.
  • Assess and document fetal heart rate, uterine activity, contractions, and maternal response to labor.
  • Monitor patients for signs of maternal or fetal complications and promptly report abnormal findings.
  • Provide nursing care to patients experiencing normal and high-risk pregnancies according to their clinical needs.
  • Assist with the management of patients experiencing pregnancy-related complications, including hypertensive disorders, gestational diabetes, bleeding, preterm labor, and other obstetric conditions.
  • Provide support and nursing care throughout the stages of labor.
  • Administer prescribed medications, intravenous fluids, oxytocin, and other treatments according to hospital policies and physician orders.
  • Assist physicians and midwives during vaginal deliveries and other obstetric procedures.
  • Prepare patients for cesarean sections and assist with preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Monitor patients following delivery for bleeding, uterine tone, pain, vital signs, and other potential complications.
  • Provide immediate postpartum care to the mother, including assessment of the uterus, lochia, incision or perineal area, pain, and overall recovery.
  • Support early maternal-newborn bonding and facilitate skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding when appropriate.
  • Provide routine newborn care within the nurse’s scope of practice and hospital protocols.
  • Monitor newborn vital signs and recognize signs requiring further assessment or intervention.
  • Support breastfeeding and provide education regarding feeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
  • Educate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum care, medications, warning signs, and discharge instructions.
  • Provide emotional support and respond to patient and family concerns throughout the childbirth experience.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of maternal and fetal assessments, interventions, medications, delivery information, and patient outcomes.
  • Communicate changes in maternal or fetal condition promptly to the obstetric and multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in emergency obstetric interventions, including maternal resuscitation and other emergency responses as required.
  • Assist with postpartum hemorrhage management and other obstetric emergencies according to hospital protocols.
  • Maintain infection prevention, patient safety, and medication safety standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, discharge planning, quality improvement activities, and staff education.
