Summary

The Pediatric Radiotherapy Consultant provides specialist care for patients requiring radiation treatment for cancer and selected non-malignant conditions. The role focuses on assessing patients, developing individualized radiotherapy treatment plans, overseeing treatment delivery, managing treatment-related side effects, and monitoring patient outcomes. The consultant works closely with medical oncologists, surgeons, medical physicists, radiation therapists, and other multidisciplinary specialists to support accurate treatment planning and high-quality patient care.

Education/Qualifications Required:

1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
2. Post-qualification certification
   • Qualification Source from: North America, Austria, Blegium, France, Germany, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden Switzerland Australia OR New Zealand.
     • USA: USA: The American Board of Radiology (ABR) – Radiation Oncology
     • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC -Radiation Oncology)
     • UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST Specialist Register – (Radiation Oncology )
     • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP – Radiation Oncology)

Experience Post-Qualifications:

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT) Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR  Switzerland,
• Sub-Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany,  Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.

License:

• Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
• Current BLS/ACLS Certificate

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide specialist, evidence-based radiation oncology care to pediatric patients with cancer.
• Assess pediatric oncology patients, review medical history, imaging, pathology and diagnostic results, and determine appropriate radiotherapy treatment.
• Develop individualized radiation treatment plans based on the patient’s diagnosis, age, clinical condition and treatment objectives.
• Perform and oversee radiotherapy planning, simulation, treatment delivery and treatment verification.
• Manage pediatric tumors, including central nervous system tumors and other solid malignancies.
• Work closely with Pediatric Oncology, Pediatric Surgery, Radiology, Pathology, Medical Physics, Anesthesia and other specialties as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Participate actively in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and contribute to treatment planning and clinical decision-making.
• Monitor patients throughout treatment, assess treatment response and manage radiation-related side effects and complications.
• Coordinate appropriate anesthesia or sedation for pediatric patients when required for radiotherapy procedures.
• Provide outpatient consultations and follow-up care, including monitoring for long-term treatment effects and survivorship needs.
• Lead and supervise junior medical staff, residents and fellows, providing clinical guidance, teaching and training.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with SEHA policies and regulatory requirements.
• Obtain appropriate informed consent and communicate treatment plans, risks and expected outcomes clearly to patients and their families.
• Participate in clinical audits, peer review, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Follow radiation safety standards, infection control requirements and Department of Health Abu Dhabi regulations.
• Participate in clinical research, education and professional development activities.
• Participate in on-call duties and provide out-of-hours clinical coverage as required.
• Promote evidence-based practice and maintain current knowledge of advances in pediatric radiotherapy and radiation oncology.
• Perform other clinical and administrative duties within the scope of the Consultant’s specialty as assigned by the Division Chief.
