Summary
Within the mission, vision, and values of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs, the Section Head of Molecular and Translational Pathology is responsible for the strategic and clinical leadership of the molecular pathology division. This role bridges diagnostics and research, overseeing advanced genomic testing, ensuring the highest standards of laboratory quality, and driving innovation through translational research. The Section Head plays a key role in integrating precision medicine into patient care, mentoring future pathologists, and contributing to the academic and scientific mission of King Abdulaziz Medical City.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum Seven (7) years after board/equivalent certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
- Minimum Five (5) years after board/equivalent certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).
License:
Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the molecular pathology section, including staff supervision, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Coordinate with hospital administration on budgeting, resource allocation, and strategic planning for laboratory growth.
- Develop and implement laboratory policies, quality control protocols, and safety procedures.
- Participate in departmental leadership meetings and contribute to policy and protocol development across pathology services.
- Mentor and train pathology residents, fellows, and laboratory personnel in molecular diagnostics and translational research.
- Organize and lead CME activities, journal clubs, and teaching sessions related to molecular pathology.
- Maintain and promote academic excellence through participation in national and international conferences and lectures.
- Drive translational research initiatives integrating molecular diagnostics with clinical outcomes.
- Publish original research in peer-reviewed journals and collaborate with academic institutions on genomic studies.
- Foster innovation in precision medicine by integrating new technologies and bioinformatics tools into routine diagnostics.
- Actively participate in tumor boards, clinical case discussions, and cross-disciplinary collaborations.
- Serve as a key liaison between pathology and other specialties to advance personalized patient care.
- Engage with national and international partners to elevate the institution’s role in molecular and genomic research.
