Summary

Within the mission, vision and values of Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs, in close collaboration with medical and other healthcare team members demonstrates advanced nursing knowledge and applies this knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis, delivery and design of nursing care and interventions in the Medical Unit. Function under a collaborative management model where Medicine and Nursing jointly participate in decisions.

Education / Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • OR Associate Degree/Diploma or country equivalent + Bachelor’s in Nursing related field

Experience:

  • Experience from North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience post-qualification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in ICU or a related specialty.

License:

Current and in good Standing Nursing License/Registration (RN) to practice in country of residence

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced nursing care for patients transitioning from the ICU, requiring continuous monitoring but lower acuity than critical care.
  • Monitor and interpret vital signs, ensuring timely intervention for any abnormal findings or deterioration in patient condition.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with patient care plans and hospital protocols.
  • Perform complex nursing procedures such as wound care, tracheostomy care, and central line management.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and families on post-ICU recovery, self-care techniques, and discharge planning.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and progress in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in daily patient rounds to provide updates and contribute to clinical decision-making.
  • Adhere to infection control measures, including proper hand hygiene and management of isolation protocols.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and care delivery.
  • Maintain knowledge of step-down and progressive care protocols, advancing clinical expertise through ongoing education.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor to new nurses, students, and less experienced staff within the unit.
  • Manage medical equipment such as telemetry monitors, infusion pumps, and ventilators.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, including code situations, and assist in stabilizing patients as needed.
  • Advocate for patients’ rights, dignity, and needs throughout the recovery process.
  • Ensure safe patient transitions by communicating effectively with ICU, general wards, and external care providers.
  • Participate in unit-based training, competency assessments, and continuing education programs.
  • Comply with hospital policies, professional standards, and ethical guidelines in all aspects of patient care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the functioning and objectives of the Stepdown ICU unit.
