Summary

The purpose of this role is to lead and strengthen the Clinical Hematopathology service in line with HMC’s strategy for high-quality specialized care, academic practice, and clinical innovation. The Senior Consultant provides expert diagnostic leadership across hematologic malignancies and benign hematologic disorders, supporting accurate, timely, and clinically relevant pathology reporting in line with international standards.

The role includes oversight of laboratory and clinical hematopathology services, service development, and quality performance. You guide continuous improvement using diagnostic outcomes, audit data, and incident trends to support patient safety and service efficiency. You work closely with clinicians, laboratory teams, and academic partners to support multidisciplinary care, training, and research activity.

This position requires strong clinical judgment, leadership experience, and effective collaboration across the health system to support sustainable improvements in hematopathology services and patient outcomes.

Education/Qualifications Required:

Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand  
      • USA: The American Board of Pathology
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRACPC – Pathology)
      • UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST/CESR and joined Specialty Register of Pathology
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP) in Pathology
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above in Pathology

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum six (6) years of experience 

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Provide senior-level diagnostic leadership in clinical hematopathology across HMC facilities.
  • Report complex hematologic malignancies and benign hematologic disorders using integrated morphology, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, and molecular data.
  • Oversee bone marrow, lymph node, and peripheral blood pathology services to support timely clinical decision-making.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, tumor boards, and clinicopathological conferences across HMC.
  • Advise hematology and oncology teams on test selection, interpretation, and follow-up investigations.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives using audit data, diagnostic concordance, and incident reporting trends.
  • Ensure compliance with HMC policies, patient safety standards, and international accreditation requirements.
  • Support laboratory governance, workload planning, and service development in line with HMC strategy.
  • Supervise, mentor, and assess consultants, fellows, residents, and laboratory staff within the academic health system.
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education, training programs, and competency assessments.
  • Support research, clinical audits, and scholarly activity aligned with HMC academic objectives.
  • Participate in accreditation surveys, internal inspections, and regulatory reviews.
  • Maintain licensure, CPD requirements, and ethical practice standards as per HMC and national regulations.
  • Collaborate with departmental leadership and cross-functional teams to support sustainable service improvement and patient-centered care.
