Summary

Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of medical diseases and conditions, as well as the provision of medical care in the field of Critical Care in accordance with the current medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations and the Organization policies and procedures in Saudi Arabia

Education / Qualification Required:

1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
2. Post-qualification certification
   • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
     • USA: The American Board of Critical Care (ABCC)
     • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate  (FRCPC – Critical Care)
     • UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST Specialist Register – Critical Care
     • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College – Critical Care (FRACP)
     • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

• Minimum Three (3) years after board / equivalence certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
• Minimum Five (5) years after board / equivalence certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).
• Fellowship in Neuro Critical Care is a must

License:

• Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
• Current BLS/ACLS Certificate
• Valid registration from Saudi Commission for Health Specialties as CONSULTANT CRITICAL CARE /or INTENSIVE CARE.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for critically ill patients with neurological and neurosurgical disorders.
• Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with conditions including:
  • Acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Subarachnoid hemorrhage
  • Status epilepticus
  • Brain tumors with critical complications
  • Central nervous system infections
  • Neuromuscular respiratory failure
  • Elevated intracranial pressure
  • Post-operative neurosurgical patients
• Perform daily multidisciplinary rounds.
• Interpret neuroimaging, laboratory findings, and neuromonitoring data.
• Manage mechanical ventilation and hemodynamic support.
• Perform bedside procedures such as:
  • Central venous catheter insertion
  • Arterial line placement
  • Endotracheal intubation
  • Lumbar puncture (where appropriate)
• Collaborate with neurology, neurosurgery, trauma, emergency medicine, radiology, and rehabilitation services.
• Participate in rapid response and code blue teams as required.

Administrative responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
• Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
• Develop and implement clinical protocols and guidelines.
• Support accreditation and patient safety activities.

Teaching and Education

• Supervise residents, fellows, and junior physicians.
• Participate in continuing medical education (CME) activities.
• Deliver educational sessions for multidisciplinary staff.
• Mentor trainees in neurocritical care practice.

Research

• Participate in clinical research and quality improvement projects.
• Contribute to publications and presentations where appropriate.
• Maintain compliance with ethical and regulatory research standards.
