Summary

Responsible for the diagnosis and treat patients with acute illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. They are trained to rapidly assess patients, stabilize their condition, and decide on the best course of action, whether that’s for further care in the hospital or discharge after treatment. 

Education / Qualification Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: United States
      • USA: The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM)

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board.

License:

  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
  • Current BLS/ACLS Certificate

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior clinical care to adult and pediatric patients presenting with acute illness, injury, or medical emergencies.
  • Perform rapid assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment in line with international emergency medicine standards.
  • Lead resuscitation of critically ill or injured patients, including trauma, cardiac arrest, sepsis, stroke, and respiratory failure.
  • Make timely decisions on admission, discharge, referral, or transfer to appropriate inpatient services.
  • Lead emergency department shifts and oversee patient flow to support safe throughput and reduce delays.
  • Conduct and supervise procedures such as airway management, procedural sedation, central venous access, and point-of-care ultrasound.
  • Review and interpret laboratory results, imaging, ECGs, and bedside investigations; adjust management plans as required.
  • Accept referrals from ambulance services and coordinate care with pre-hospital teams.
  • Work closely with trauma surgery, ICU, cardiology, neurology, pediatrics, internal medicine, anesthesia, radiology, and nursing teams.
  • Communicate clearly with patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, risks, and expected outcomes.
  • Support shared decision-making and safe discharge planning with appropriate follow-up instructions.
  • Promote a team-based, collaborative approach within a high-acuity tertiary emergency department.
  • Supervise and oversee the clinical work of junior doctors, residents, and fellows during shifts.
  • Provide bedside teaching, case-based learning, and mentorship to emergency medicine trainees.
