Summary

Within the mission, vision, and values of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs, the Consultant in Internal Medicine provides comprehensive care for adult patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. The consultant ensures high standards of patient care, supervises and trains junior physicians, participates in academic and research activities, and contributes to quality improvement initiatives within the department.

Education / Qualification Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
      • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties  (ABIM)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate  (FRCPS or CCFP- Internal Medicine)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register – Internal Medicine
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College – Internal Medicine (FRACP)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum Three (3) years after board / equivalence certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
  • Minimum Five (5) years after board / equivalence certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).

License:

  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, manage, and treat a broad spectrum of acute and chronic medical conditions in adult patients.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient care, including management of complex and multisystem diseases.
  • Supervise and mentor Associate Consultants, Assistant Consultants, residents, and medical students in internal medicine practices.
  • Develop and implement individualized patient treatment plans based on evidence-based guidelines.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including subspecialists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive patient management.
  • Participate in on-call duties, responding to emergencies and providing expert consultations as needed.
  • Lead and engage in research activities, clinical audits, and continuous medical education programs.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control protocols, and patient safety standards.
  • Educate patients and families on disease prevention, management, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and policy development within the department of Internal Medicine.
