Lung Transplant Surgery Consultant
Summary
The Consultant is responsible for the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases and conditions, as well as the provision of medical care, in accordance with current medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and the hospital’s policies and procedures. Provide required patient care and management in the field of Lung Transplant Surgery in accordance with standards of medical care. Diagnoses and treats breathing disorders and lung conditions requiring transplantation, such as bronchiectasis, interstitial pulmonary diseases, bronchiolitis obliterans, Kartagner syndrome, etc.
Education / Qualification Required:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum Three (3) years after board / equivalence certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
- Minimum Five (5) years after board / equivalence certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).
- Vast experience in Lung Transplant Surgery.
License:
Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provides inpatient and outpatient consultations, treatment and management as assigned.
- Assumes shared responsibility with Lung Transplant Surgery (adult and Paediatric) for the management of new transplant recipients.
- Assumes responsibility for patients under his care. Liaises with various support service departments and medical specialties to provide appropriate and timely medical care, in accordance with the standards laid down by KFSH&RC.
- Participates in the On-Call rotation schedule for the section of Lung Transplant Surgery
- Collaborates and coordinates with other teams and staff members related to Lung Transplant Surgery
- Admits patients, initiates investigations and ensures all findings are recorded. Assesses patient’s diseases or conditions to determine appropriate therapeutic modalities/procedures.
- Conducts ward rounds as per policy and reassesses inpatients under care. Documents all findings in medical records.
- Ensures appropriate patient preparation for procedures/surgery and performs procedures/surgery as indicated in the signed clinical privilege form.
- Attends specialty clinics, outpatient clinics, day surgical units, day medical units, special procedures, treatment areas and shares on-call schedule as per requirements.
- Attends and actively participates in the Morning Endorsement Meeting, Transplant Selection Meeting, HCC meeting and other departmental and divisional clinical activities.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
Academic Responsibilities
- Directs and advices junior staff on patient management, especially in the field of Lung Transplant Surgery
- Guides and actively participates in the training and teaching of residents, fellows, assistant consultants and junior staff.
- Keeps abreast with all of the latest techniques and developments, especially in the field Lung Transplant Surgery , following and implementing them on a selective basis to improve technical standards.
- Actively participates in undergraduate and post graduate educational activities and training programs as assigned by Section Head, Chairman and/or Director, Organ Transplant Centre.
- Participates in national and international medical conferences.
Research Responsibilities
- Actively participates in clinical, basic and translational research projects and publishes papers in accordance with Research Advisory Council Policy in order to advance knowledge, improve the quality of post graduate education and contribute to the national and international recognition of KFSH&RC.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Undertakes the administrative duties assigned by Head of Section or Chairman.
- Participates in all mandatory departmental activities and serves on Departmental and Organization committees and other administrative functions, as required.
- Assists the department in the development and implementation of techniques and practices that help to maximize the utilization of all resources within the department and across the Organization.
- Abides by the current Organization and medical staff bylaws, all relevant rules, regulations and policies and keeps updated of any changes that might occur.
- Follows all Organization-related policies and procedures.
- Participates in self-and others’ education, training and development as applicable.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
