Summary

The Staff Nurse , provides professional nursing care in accordance with the mission, vision and values of King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre.

Working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals, the nurse assesses patients, plans and delivers appropriate nursing care, monitors clinical progress and responds effectively to changes in patients’ conditions.

Education/Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • The nursing degree must have been completed through classroom-based study. Online or distance-learning nursing degrees are not accepted.
  • Must meet Saudi Commission for Health Specialties classification and registration requirements for Nurse Specialist.

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years of current, full-time clinical experience following completion of the nursing qualification.
  • Current experience must be in an acute-care hospital.
  • Current clinical experience in Adult or Pediatric Oncology
  • Current nursing experience must be from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.

License:

  • Current and good-standing Registered Nurse license or registration permitting practice in the candidate’s country of residence.
  • Must hold current professional nursing license from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult oncology and hematology patients.
  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments, including vital signs, pain, functional status, nutritional status, and psychosocial needs.
  • Assess patients for signs and symptoms of disease progression and treatment-related complications.
  • Monitor laboratory results and other diagnostic findings relevant to the patient’s treatment plan.
  • Administer prescribed medications, intravenous therapies, blood products, supportive treatments, and antineoplastic therapies according to hospital policies and individual competency.
  • Administer chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and other systemic cancer treatments when appropriately trained and authorized.
  • Verify treatment orders, patient identification, allergies, treatment parameters, and relevant laboratory results before treatment administration.
  • Monitor patients during and after treatment for infusion reactions, hypersensitivity, anaphylaxis, extravasation, and other acute complications.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to treatment-related toxicities and clinical deterioration.
  • Follow established protocols for the safe handling, administration, disposal, and spill management of hazardous medications.
  • Monitor patients for common cancer and treatment-related complications, including nausea and vomiting, pain, fatigue, mucositis, infection, neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, and dehydration.
  • Monitor patients for signs of infection and sepsis, particularly in immunocompromised or neutropenic patients.
  • Provide care for patients with central venous access devices, PICCs, ports, and other vascular access devices within the nurse’s scope of practice.
  • Administer blood and blood products according to hospital policies and monitor patients for transfusion reactions.
  • Provide symptom management and supportive care throughout the treatment process.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures, biopsies, bone marrow procedures, and other oncology-related interventions as required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, treatments, medications, laboratory results, adverse reactions, and patient outcomes.
  • Communicate changes in patient condition promptly to the oncologist, hematologist, or appropriate healthcare team.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to individualized treatment and nursing care plans.
  • Educate patients and families regarding cancer diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, expected side effects, symptom management, and when to seek urgent medical attention.
  • Provide education regarding safe management of oral anticancer medications and other treatments administered at home.
  • Provide emotional and psychosocial support to patients and families coping with cancer and its treatment.
  • Coordinate follow-up care, laboratory testing, referrals, and appointments as required.
  • Assist with discharge planning and provide clear instructions regarding medications, follow-up, treatment-related precautions, and symptoms requiring medical attention.
  • Participate in emergency response and resuscitation activities when required.
  • Maintain infection prevention, medication safety, and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, oncology education, clinical audits, and professional development activities.
