Summary

The Staff Nurse , provides professional nursing care in accordance with the mission, vision and values of King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre.

Working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals, the nurse assesses patients, plans and delivers appropriate nursing care, monitors clinical progress and responds effectively to changes in patients’ conditions.

Education/Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • The nursing degree must have been completed through classroom-based study. Online or distance-learning nursing degrees are not accepted.
  • Must meet Saudi Commission for Health Specialties classification and registration requirements for Nurse Specialist.

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years of current, full-time clinical experience following completion of the nursing qualification.
  • Current experience must be in an acute-care hospital.
  • Current clinical experience in in Operating Room (Scrub Nurse).
  • Current nursing experience must be from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.

License:

  • Current and good-standing Registered Nurse license or registration permitting practice in the candidate’s country of residence.
  • Must hold current professional nursing license from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical and invasive procedures.
  • Perform preoperative patient assessments and verify the patient’s identity, procedure, surgical site, allergies, medical history, and relevant clinical information.
  • Review the patient’s medical record, surgical consent, laboratory results, diagnostic reports, and preoperative orders.
  • Prepare the operating room, equipment, instruments, supplies, and medications required for scheduled procedures.
  • Serve as the circulating RN during surgical procedures and coordinate nursing care throughout the operative period.
  • Maintain patient safety and act as the patient’s advocate throughout the surgical procedure.
  • Participate in surgical safety checks, including patient identification, procedure verification, site verification, and surgical time-out.
  • Assist with safe positioning of patients according to the procedure and individual clinical needs.
  • Apply appropriate measures to prevent pressure injuries, nerve injuries, falls, hypothermia, and other perioperative complications.
  • Maintain and monitor aseptic technique and support maintenance of the sterile field.
  • Coordinate communication between the surgical team, anesthesia team, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and arrange required equipment, instruments, implants, medications, and supplies.
  • Perform and document surgical counts of instruments, sponges, needles, and other applicable items according to hospital policy.
  • Operate and monitor specialized surgical equipment as required and within demonstrated competency.
  • Assist with specimen identification, handling, labeling, and documentation according to hospital policy.
  • Administer medications and treatments within the RN’s scope of practice and hospital policies.
  • Monitor the patient’s condition during the procedure and promptly communicate changes to the surgical and anesthesia teams.
  • Assist with emergency interventions and resuscitation when required.
  • Maintain accurate and complete intraoperative documentation.
  • Participate in the safe transfer of patients from the operating room to the recovery area or other appropriate clinical unit.
  • Provide appropriate handover regarding the patient’s condition, procedure, medications, blood loss, drains, specimens, and other relevant information.
  • Participate in postoperative patient care and follow-up as required by the surgical service.
  • Assist in the scrub role when trained and assigned, including preparation and maintenance of the sterile field and handling surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Follow infection prevention, sterilization, environmental safety, and surgical safety policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, audits, staff education, and professional development.
