Summary
The Staff Nurse , provides professional nursing care in accordance with the mission, vision and values of King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre.
Working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals, the nurse assesses patients, plans and delivers appropriate nursing care, monitors clinical progress and responds effectively to changes in patients’ conditions.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- The nursing degree must have been completed through classroom-based study. Online or distance-learning nursing degrees are not accepted.
- Must meet Saudi Commission for Health Specialties classification and registration requirements for Nurse Specialist.
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum two years of current, full-time clinical experience following completion of the nursing qualification.
- Current experience must be in an acute-care hospital.
- Current clinical experience in Neuroscience Unit.
- Current nursing experience must be from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
License:
- Current and good-standing Registered Nurse license or registration permitting practice in the candidate’s country of residence.
- Must hold current professional nursing license from North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions.
- Perform detailed neurological assessments, including level of consciousness, orientation, pupil response, motor strength, sensation, speech, and other neurological functions.
- Monitor patients for changes in neurological status and promptly report abnormal findings or signs of deterioration.
- Care for patients with conditions such as stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), seizures, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, spinal disorders, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological conditions.
- Provide postoperative nursing care to patients following neurosurgical procedures, including craniotomy and spinal surgery.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, treatments, and other interventions according to physician orders and hospital policies.
- Monitor patients receiving antiepileptic, anticoagulant, analgesic, corticosteroid, and other neurological medications.
- Monitor vital signs, neurological observations, fluid balance, laboratory results, and diagnostic findings.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to neurological emergencies, including acute changes in level of consciousness, seizures, stroke symptoms, increased intracranial pressure, and other signs of deterioration.
- Implement seizure precautions, fall prevention measures, aspiration precautions, and other appropriate patient safety interventions.
- Assist with the care and monitoring of patients requiring specialized neurological procedures or equipment.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic examinations and procedures and provide appropriate post-procedure care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, medications, and patient outcomes.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and update individualized nursing care plans.
- Communicate patient status and changes in condition to physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to the coordination of patient care.
- Educate patients and families regarding neurological conditions, medications, treatment plans, safety precautions, rehabilitation, and discharge care.
- Provide emotional support to patients and families coping with neurological illness and changes in functional ability.
- Promote early mobilization and rehabilitation in collaboration with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Assist with discharge planning and provide appropriate education regarding medications, follow-up appointments, warning signs, and ongoing care.
- Maintain infection prevention and patient safety standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical education, and professional development activities.
