Summary

Within the mission, vision, and values of Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs, the Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery provides expert surgical care for patients with conditions affecting the mouth, jaw, face, and neck. The consultant is responsible for diagnosing and treating complex cases, performing advanced surgical procedures, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Additionally, the consultant participates in education, training, research, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.

Education / Qualification Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
        • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
        • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
        • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
        • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
        • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum Three (3) years after board / equivalence certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
  • Minimum Five (5) years after board / equivalence certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).

License:

  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
  • Current BLS/ACLS Certificate

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and manage conditions affecting the oral and maxillofacial region, including trauma, congenital disorders, tumors, infections, and facial deformities.
  • Perform advanced surgical procedures such as orthognathic surgery, facial reconstruction, TMJ surgery, dental implants, and maxillofacial trauma repair.
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care, ensuring patient safety and optimal recovery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including dentists, orthodontists, ENT specialists, plastic surgeons, and oncologists, to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Supervise and train Associate Consultants, Assistant Consultants, residents, and medical students in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
  • Participate in on-call duties and respond to maxillofacial emergencies, including fractures, infections, and airway management.
  • Engage in clinical research and contribute to advancements in oral and maxillofacial surgical techniques and best practices.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital policies, infection control measures, and patient safety protocols.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, ensuring evidence-based practice and continuous development of surgical services.
  • Maintain clear communication with patients and families, providing education on treatment options, risks, and post-surgical care.
