Summary
The Pediatric Orthopedic Consultant provides specialist diagnosis, surgical and non-surgical management of musculoskeletal conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents. The role involves the evaluation and treatment of congenital, developmental, traumatic, infectious, neuromuscular, and acquired orthopedic disorders while considering the unique needs of the growing skeleton.
Education/Qualification:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: The American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC -in Orthopedic Surgery)
- UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST Specialist Register – (Orthopedic Surgery)
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Orthopedic Surgery
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT) Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR Switzerland,
- Sub-Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience after obtaining the main specialty qualification in United Kingdom (CESR) Portugal, Spain, or Italy.
- Sub-Specialties: Minimum of four (4) years of experience after obtaining the sub-specialty qualification in Portugal, Spain, or Italy.
License:
- Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess, diagnose, and manage congenital, developmental, traumatic, and acquired musculoskeletal disorders in infants, children, and adolescents
- Perform comprehensive clinical examinations and interpret imaging studies including X-rays, CT scans, MRI, and ultrasound as appropriate
- Perform pediatric orthopedic surgeries and procedures, including correction of deformities, fracture fixation, and treatment of complex musculoskeletal conditions
- Manage congenital disorders such as clubfoot, developmental dysplasia of the hip, limb deformities, and skeletal abnormalities
- Treat pediatric fractures, sports injuries, spinal deformities, infections, and neuromuscular conditions such as cerebral palsy-related orthopedic problems
- Develop individualized treatment plans including surgical intervention, casting, bracing, physical therapy, and long-term follow-up
- Provide preoperative assessment, perioperative management, and postoperative care to optimize recovery and functional outcomes
- Collaborate with pediatricians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary teams
- Participate in multidisciplinary clinics for complex conditions, including scoliosis, neuromuscular disorders, and limb reconstruction cases
- Provide emergency orthopedic consultation and management for acute injuries when required
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, operative reports, and patient records
- Participate in quality improvement programs, clinical audits, research, and development of orthopedic care protocols
- Supervise and train residents, fellows, and junior medical staff
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, and infection prevention protocols
