Summary

 The Consultant in Pediatric Plastic Surgery provides expert assessment, diagnosis, surgical management, and long-term care for infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired conditions requiring plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Education/Qualification:

Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.

• Basic medical degree from recognized institution
• Post-qualification certification 
  • USA: American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS)
  • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate Pediatric Plastic Surgery  (FRCPC)
  • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register in Pediatric Plastic Surgery
  • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College in Pediatric Plastic Surgery (FRACP)

Experience:

• • • Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT) Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR  Switzerland,
    • Sub-Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.

License:

• Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide expert assessment, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and long-term management of infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired conditions requiring plastic and reconstructive surgery.
• Conduct comprehensive clinical evaluations, review medical histories, perform physical examinations, interpret diagnostic investigations, and formulate individualized surgical and treatment plans.
• Perform a broad range of pediatric plastic and reconstructive procedures, including correction of cleft lip and palate, craniofacial anomalies, congenital hand deformities, soft tissue abnormalities, skin lesions, and traumatic injuries.
• Manage pediatric burn injuries, scar revisions, complex wound care, and reconstructive procedures to restore function and appearance.
• Provide preoperative assessment, surgical planning, intraoperative management, and postoperative follow-up to optimize patient outcomes.
• Work closely with pediatricians, craniofacial surgeons, ENT surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated multidisciplinary care.
• Provide consultation services to emergency departments, inpatient units, intensive care units, neonatal units, outpatient clinics, and other specialties as required.
• Accept and manage referrals from primary care providers, pediatric specialists, emergency services, inpatient units, and external healthcare facilities.
• Lead inpatient ward rounds and outpatient clinics; review, reassess, and monitor patients throughout treatment and long-term follow-up.
• Manage postoperative complications, monitor healing and functional outcomes, and modify treatment plans as clinically indicated.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, surgical options, expected outcomes, potential risks, and postoperative care requirements.
• Provide counseling, education, and emotional support to patients and families throughout the treatment and recovery process.
• Promote a collaborative, patient-centered approach to care within a multicultural healthcare environment.
• Supervise and provide clinical guidance to junior doctors, residents, fellows, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in clinical teaching, case discussions, surgical training, and mentorship activities.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, peer reviews, morbidity and mortality meetings, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to the development of clinical pathways, surgical protocols, pediatric plastic surgery programs, and service improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Comply with patient safety requirements, informed consent policies, infection prevention measures, and all accreditation and regulatory guidelines.
• Participate in quality improvement projects, clinical audits, research activities, safety reporting, and continuous professional development to advance pediatric plastic surgery services.
