Summary
This position is affiliated with Cincinnati’s Children’s hospital in the USA. The Consultant in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine (Physiatrist) specializes in the diagnosis and management of children with physical disabilities, neuromuscular disorders, and developmental challenges. The role focuses on restoring function, enhancing mobility, and improving quality of life through individualized rehabilitation programs. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, the consultant provides comprehensive, family-centered care while contributing to teaching, research, and the advancement of pediatric rehabilitation services.
Education/Qualification:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- Requires a fellowship in Pediatric Rehabilitation
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT) Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR Switzerland,
- Sub-Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience after obtaining the main specialty qualification in United Kingdom (CESR) Portugal, Spain, or Italy
- Sub-Specialties: Minimum of four (4) years of experience after obtaining the sub-specialty qualification in Portugal, Spain, or Italy.
License:
- Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive evaluation and management of children with physical disabilities, neuromuscular disorders, and developmental conditions.
- Design and oversee individualized rehabilitation treatment plans aimed at improving function, mobility, and quality of life.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team that may include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and psychologists.
- Collaborate with pediatric subspecialists such as neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, and neurosurgeons for integrated care.
- Conduct and interpret diagnostic tests relevant to rehabilitation medicine (e.g., EMG, nerve conduction studies, functional assessments).
- Prescribe medications, therapies, assistive devices, and adaptive equipment as needed.
- Supervise rehabilitation programs including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and pain management strategies.
- Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and provide long-term care strategies for chronic conditions.
- Participate in teaching, training, and mentoring medical staff, residents, and allied health professionals.
- Contribute to clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and hospital committees related to pediatric rehabilitation.
- Ensure high standards of patient safety, ethical practice, and compliance with hospital policies and UAE regulations.
