Summary

The Podiatrist Consultant provides advanced assessment, diagnosis and management of foot and lower limb conditions. You work within multidisciplinary teams to treat high-risk patients, especially those with diabetes and complex comorbidities. You lead clinical decision-making, support service development and contribute to education and research within the organization.

Education/Qualifications Required:

Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand  
      • USA: The American Board in Podiatry
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRACPC – Podiatry)
      • UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST/CESR and joined Specialty Register of Podiatry
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP) in Podiatry
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above in Podiatry 

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum Three (3) years after board/equivalent certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES) and other above listed countries.
  • Minimum One (1) year experience at Public/ Government Hospital or Teaching / Academic institution

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment of foot and lower limb disorders, including complex and high-risk cases.
  • Manage diabetic foot conditions, including ulcer care, infection control and prevention of complications such as amputation.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using both conservative and minor surgical interventions where appropriate.
  • Perform advanced podiatric procedures such as wound debridement, nail surgery and offloading techniques.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, vascular surgeons, endocrinologists and nurses to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Lead and support diabetic foot care programs and participate in prevention and early intervention strategies.
  • Provide expert consultation and second opinions on complex podiatry cases within the organization.
  • Educate patients and families on foot care, prevention strategies and long-term management of chronic conditions.
  • Supervise, mentor and support junior podiatrists and other healthcare staff.
  • Participate in the development, review and implementation of clinical policies, protocols and guidelines.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives, audits and research activities related to podiatry and wound care.
  • Ensure accurate, timely and complete documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to service planning and development to enhance podiatry services within the organization.
  • Participate in continuing professional development and maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
