Staff Nurse I – Specialty B – Hemodialysis
Summary
Within the mission, vision and values of Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs, in close collaboration with medical and other healthcare team members demonstrates advanced nursing knowledge and applies this knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis, delivery and design of nursing care and interventions in the Medical Unit.
Education / Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- OR Associate Degree/Diploma or country equivalent + Bachelor’s in Nursing related field
Experience:
- Experience from North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience post-qualification.
- Minimum of one (1) year in wound and Ostomy Care or a related specialty.
License:
Current and in good Standing Nursing License/Registration (RN) to practice in country of residence
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing hemodialysis treatments, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- Monitor and document patients’ vital signs, fluid balance, and other clinical parameters during dialysis sessions.
- Prepare and initiate hemodialysis treatments, including connecting patients to dialysis machines, adjusting dialysis prescriptions, and monitoring the equipment for proper functioning.
- Ensure that dialysis machines and related equipment are properly set up, calibrated, and maintained according to hospital policies and manufacturer instructions.
- Administer prescribed medications, including heparin and other treatments, as directed by the nephrologist.
- Recognize and respond to complications during dialysis treatments, including hypotension, electrolyte imbalances, and access site issues, and take appropriate action.
- Provide patient education on the dialysis process, self-care techniques, diet, and lifestyle modifications, helping patients understand their treatment plans.
- Monitor patients’ responses to dialysis and communicate any changes in patient condition to the healthcare team.
- Collaborate with nephrologists, dialysis technicians, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Ensure that all clinical documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Administer routine care and maintenance of vascular access sites, including cannulation and monitoring for signs of infection or complications.
- Perform post-treatment evaluations and provide patients with instructions on post-dialysis care, including nutrition, fluid intake, and monitoring for side effects.
- Participate in the development and implementation of patient care protocols and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
- Comply with infection control protocols to ensure a safe and sterile environment for patients undergoing dialysis.
- Provide emotional support to patients and families, addressing concerns and offering reassurance during the treatment process.
- Assist with the maintenance of dialysis unit inventory, ensuring supplies and equipment are well-stocked and in good working order.
- Participate in staff training, educational programs, and professional development activities to stay current with advancements in dialysis care.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to address patient concerns and ensure continuity of care between dialysis sessions.
- Participate in audits and evaluations of clinical practices to maintain high standards of patient care and compliance with regulations.
- Take responsibility for maintaining personal licensure and certifications, staying updated on best practices for dialysis care.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of the hemodialysis unit.
