Biomedical Physics Chairperson
Summary
Responsible for leading and overseeing the Biomedical Physics department, ensuring the advancement of research, education, and clinical applications related to the physics principles underlying biological systems and medical technologies. This role combines expertise in physics, focusing on the theoretical and experimental understanding of biological processes, and leadership in fostering innovation in medical diagnostics, treatment, and imaging technologies.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Doctorate Degree: E.g. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent in a bio/medical radiation physics or related discipline from an accredited university/institution is required.
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe or Australia
- USA: American Board of Radiology (ABR) Certification and equivalent for other countries
- Additional Requirements: Research productivity demonstrated through publications in reputable, relevant peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum Twelve (12) years after board/equivalent certification in North America, Western Europe or Australia
- Five (5) years extensive administrative/supervisory experience
License/ Registration
Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to develop, implement, and continuously monitor the department’s goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, updating them as necessary to align with institutional priorities.
- Implement directives from the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, Research Centre Credentials Committee, and Research Advisory Council.
- Coordinate with the Research Centre Administration on departmental matters and serve as an advocate for the department’s interests.
- Enforce and monitor adherence of all staff to the Hospital and Research Centre Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations.
- Ensure the department consistently contributes to the hospital’s world-class reputation by maintaining and enhancing scientific and applied research processes.
- Promote and direct the department’s overall scientific and research activities, fostering innovation and excellence.
- Develop strategies to advance research productivity and integrate scientific advancements into clinical and operational practices.
- Ensure uninterrupted supervision of the department at all times, maintaining smooth operations and accountability.
- Evaluate staffing adequacy and implement mechanisms to provide effective scientific and research-related support to the Hospital.
- Lead the recruitment, selection, and retention of qualified professionals through the effective use of credentialing policies and procedures.
- Conduct ongoing reviews and annual performance evaluations for all staff, in collaboration with Section Heads and Immediate Supervisors.
- Facilitate continuous professional development and training to enhance staff expertise and productivity.
- Align departmental goals with the institution’s mission and vision, ensuring that research and scientific activities contribute to long-term organizational success.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration within and outside the institution to expand research capabilities and influence.
