Summary

The purpose of this role is to lead and advance the Neurology clinical program in alignment with HMC’s strategic vision for excellence in specialized care, innovation, and academic integration. The Consultant will drive service transformation through clinical leadership, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring adherence to international accreditation standards and institutional goals.

This role includes oversight of departmental operations, strategic planning, and fostering an environment of clinical excellence, patient safety, and evidence-based care. The Consultant will contribute to the development of a skilled medical workforce within HMC’s academic health system, leveraging incident trends and clinical outcomes to inform quality improvement initiatives. The position demands a high level of evaluative judgment and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across the health system to address complex challenges and deliver sustainable, long-term improvements in neurological care.

Education/Qualifications Required:

Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand  
      • USA: The American Board of Neurology
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRACPC – Neurology)
      • UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST/CESR and joined Specialty Register of Neurology
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP) in Neurology 
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above in Neurology

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum six (6) years of experience 
  • Subspecialties of interest: General Neurology, Stroke, Movement Disorder and Headache

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Conduct thorough clinical assessments and neurological examinations for patients with acute and chronic neurological disorders.
  • Diagnose and manage a broad spectrum of neurological conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, neuromuscular disorders, and headaches.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including MRI, CT scans, EEGs, EMGs, and lumbar punctures, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Lead inpatient care, including consultations, daily ward rounds, and management of critically ill neurological patients in the ICU.
  • Run outpatient clinics, managing follow-up and long-term care for patients with complex neurological needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and collaborate with neurosurgery, internal medicine, rehabilitation, radiology, and psychiatry teams.
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and medical students as part of HMC’s teaching hospital mandate.
  • Engage in clinical audits, research, and continuous professional development activities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based clinical pathways and treatment protocols.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records in compliance with HMC and Ministry of Public Health standards.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergency neurological cases.
