Summary

Provides comprehensive care for patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions, with a strong subspecialty focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), multidisciplinary management, and continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient services.

Education/Qualification:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand. 
    • USA: American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) – Gastroenterology Certification
    • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) – Gastroenterology
    • UK and Ireland: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT/CCST) – Gastroenterology and GMC/IMC Specialist Register
    • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) – Gastroenterology
  3. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Specialty Certification / Fellowship.
  4. Female preferred

Experience:

      • Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT) Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR  Switzerland,
      • Sub-Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.

License:

  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
  • Current BLS/ACLS Certificate

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and manage patients with gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and nutritional disorders.
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments for patients with acute and chronic GI conditions.
  • Perform and supervise pediatric endoscopic procedures, including diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy, as per SSMC scope of practice.
  • Develop and manage individualized treatment plans, including medical, nutritional, and procedural interventions.
  • Lead inpatient ward rounds and outpatient clinics; review, reassess, and follow up on admitted and referred patients.
  • Review laboratory tests, imaging, endoscopy findings, histopathology reports, and other diagnostic investigations; adjust management plans accordingly.
  • Work closely with surgeons, dietitians, hepatologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and allied health teams to coordinate multidisciplinary care.
  • Communicate clearly with patients’ families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, procedures, risks, expected outcomes, and long-term follow-up.
  • Provide nutritional guidance and coordinate enteral and parenteral nutrition plans when required.
  • Support transition of care planning and safe discharge with appropriate follow-up arrangements.
  • Promote a collaborative, team-based approach to patient care within a tertiary academic hospital environment.
  • Supervise and oversee the clinical work of junior doctors, residents, and fellows.
  • Provide mentorship, bedside teaching, and formal education sessions to trainees and nursing staff.
  • Participate in peer review, utilization review, and performance management activities.
  • Contribute to service development, clinical pathways, and GI programs at SSMC.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and clinical orientation of new medical staff as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in compliance with SSMC policies and DOH regulations.
  • Comply with hospital policies, informed consent processes, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, patient safety reporting, and incident investigations.
  • Engage in research, academic activities, and continuing professional development in line with SSMC expectations.
