Summary
Within the mission, vision and values of Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs, in close collaboration with medical and other healthcare team members demonstrates advanced nursing knowledge and applies this knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis, delivery and design of nursing care and interventions in the Postpartum Care Unit. Function under a collaborative management model where Medicine and Nursing jointly participate in decisions.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum Two (2) years of clinical experience post qualification
- Minimum One (1) year in the Postpartum Unit
License:
Current and in good Standing Nursing License/Registration (RN) to practice in country of residence
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to mothers during the immediate and early postpartum period.
- Conduct systematic maternal assessments including vital signs, uterine involution, lochia, perineal status, incision care, and pain management.
- Monitor for and promptly report postpartum complications such as hemorrhage, infection, hypertension, and thromboembolic events.
- Support and promote early mother and newborn bonding, including rooming-in practices.
- Assist and educate mothers on breastfeeding techniques, lactation support, and newborn feeding cues.
- Provide education on newborn care including hygiene, safe sleep practices, cord care, and recognizing warning signs.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments safely within the scope of the Registered Nurse license.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, lactation consultants, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care.
- Prepare and implement individualized discharge plans, ensuring mothers understand medications, follow up appointments, and postnatal warning signs.
- Advocate for patient safety, dignity, and informed decision making.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control standards in the postpartum unit.
- Participate in postpartum emergency response including management of obstetric emergencies when required.
- Provide emotional support to mothers and families experiencing high risk deliveries, complications, or perinatal loss.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving maternal and newborn outcomes.
- Participate in clinical audits and evidence-based practice activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and commitment to ongoing clinical development.
