Summary
As a Consultant Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon at King Fahad Military Medical Complex you will specialize in the surgical treatment of diseases affecting the lungs, esophagus, mediastinum, and chest wall. Your expertise in minimally invasive procedures, and will contribute to high-quality patient care. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive surgical solutions, ensuring the best outcomes for patients.
Education / Qualifications Required
- Basic medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Post-qualification certification from one of the following:
- USA: The American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate in Thoracic Surgery (RCPSC)
- UK & Ireland: GMC Specialist Register (CCT in Cardiothoracic Surgery)
- Australia & New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACS)
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
Experience Required
- Minimum 3 years post-board certification for candidates from USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and France (DES).
- Minimum 5 years post-board certification for candidates from Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece, and France (DIS).
License & Certifications
- Current and in Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
- BLS/ACLS Certification (Basic & Advanced Life Support).
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform complex thoracic surgeries, including lung resections, esophageal surgery, and chest wall reconstruction.
- Conduct minimally invasive procedures such as VATS and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS)
- Manage trauma cases, including rib fractures and thoracic trauma stabilization.
- Diagnose and surgically treat conditions such as lung cancer, esophageal disorders, mediastinal masses, and pleural diseases.
- Provide perioperative and postoperative care, ensuring optimal recovery and patient outcomes. Work alongside pulmonologists, oncologists, anesthesiologists, and critical care specialists to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary case discussions to determine surgical approaches for cancer patients.
- Coordinate with vascular surgeons and cardiologists for complex thoracic and cardiovascular cases.
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors, surgical residents, and fellows in thoracic surgery.
- Conduct training workshops on advanced surgical techniques and innovative procedures.
- Engage in clinical research to contribute to the advancement of thoracic surgery.
- Publish findings in medical journals and present research at international conferences.
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, patient safety standards, and ethical guidelines.
- Maintain accurate medical records and surgical documentation.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance surgical outcomes and patient care.
