Summary
As a Thoracic Surgery Consultant at SSMC, you will be responsible for providing specialized surgical care for patients with conditions affecting the chest, including the lungs, esophagus, and mediastinum. You will perform complex thoracic procedures, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the advancement of thoracic surgical services.
Education / Qualifications Required
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register in Thoracic Surgery
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP) – Thoracic Surgery
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
Experience Required
- Minimum (2) two years post-board certification.
License & Certifications
- Current and in Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
- BLS or ACLS Certification (Basic & Advanced Life Support).
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform specialized thoracic surgeries for lung cancer, esophageal cancer, tracheal tumors, and mediastinal masses.
- Utilize robotic-assisted and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for lung and esophageal procedures.
- Conduct minimally invasive lung resections, including segmentectomies.
- Diagnose and treat chest wall tumors, deformities (Pectus), pleural diseases, and mesothelioma.
- Perform chest wall tumor resection and reconstruction.
- Manage esophageal conditions such as diverticulum, achalasia, and paraesophageal/hiatal hernias.
- Treat tracheal stenosis and airway pathologies with stenting and surgical interventions.
- Perform minimally invasive thymectomy for myasthenia gravis and mediastinal tumors.
- Repair diaphragmatic paralysis and diaphragmatic defects.
- Provide surgical management for thoracic trauma and emergencies.
- Perform robotic sympathectomy for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
- Conduct cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITOC) for malignant pleural tumors.
- Oversee preoperative assessment, intraoperative procedures, and postoperative care.
- Collaborate with pulmonologists, oncologists, radiologists, and anesthesiologists for multidisciplinary patient care.
- Train and mentor residents, fellows, and junior surgeons in thoracic surgical techniques.
- Engage in clinical research and contribute to advancements in thoracic surgery.
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, accreditation standards, and best practices for patient safety.
