Education / Qualification Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
      • USA: The American Board of Infectious Diseases (ABID)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate  (FRCPC – Infectious Diseases )
      • UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST Specialist Register – Infectious Diseases
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College – Infectious Diseases (FRACP)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years  experience in tertiary care center in the appropriate specialty after certification is a MUST
  • Minimum Three (3) years after board / equivalence certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
  • Minimum Five (5) years after board / equivalence certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).

License:

  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
  • Current BLS/ACLS Certificate

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To provide high standard care to patients with gastrointestinal disease and its sequelae in the Division of Infectious Diseases, within the Department of Medicine.
  • To provide care for the Infectious Diseases patients admitted to the hospital under his/her name. This inpatient care would involve daily rounds on all patients assigned to the general Infectious Diseases services. Part of the inpatient Infectious Diseases care would also relate to the supervision of the medical residents rotating. The consultants is also expected to be obliged by the organizational, departmental, and divisional regulations which pertain to inpatient care.
  • To participate in the delivery of health care to all infectious diseases patients in the ambulatory care setting under his/her name. This participation would also include caring for patients attending the regular gastroenterology ambulatory services.
  • To provide consultations service to other divisions within the Department, and other departments within the hospital during the regular working and the on-call hours.     
  • To perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions and procedures to the infectious diseases patients for which he/she is granted specific privileges based on his/her training, qualifications and experience according to the specific privileging conditions approved by the Department and the organization.
  • To participate in the on-call coverage of the infectious diseases service in accordance with the rules and regulations of the division of infectious diseases.
  • To attend all the clinical, educational, and patient welfare meetings of the Division of infectious diseases as established by the division. Attendance of the general activities of the Department of Medicine is also considered an important component of the job of the consultant in infectious diseases.
  • To participate in scientific research relevant to infectious diseases, contribute into the division and department educational activities and post-graduate training programs, and to serve in committees as directed by the Head, Division of infectious diseases, the Department Chairman or the Executive Management of the organization.
  • To optimally utilize resources, show continuous evidence of self-development and participate in Quality improvement program of the Division of infectious diseases and the Department of Medicine.
  • To adhere to all rules and regulations of the Division, the Department, and the organization and to comply with all the APPs and IPPs.
  • To perform other relevant duties and tasks as directed by the Head of infectious diseases or the Chairman of the Department of Medicine.
  • To comply with all the professional and ethical standards and express adherence to the Medical Staff Bylaws of the organization.
  • To show the expected respect, at all times, to patients, their families, colleagues, subordinates and all other members of the healthcare team.
  • To provide close supervision of the clinical performance of subordinates and to provide them with a role model especially those in training.
