Summary

The Interventional Radiology Consultant provides specialist image-guided diagnostic and minimally invasive therapeutic procedures across a wide range of vascular and non-vascular conditions. The role uses imaging modalities such as ultrasound, CT, and fluoroscopy to perform targeted interventions that reduce the need for open surgery, improve recovery time, and support complex multidisciplinary care.

Education/Qualifications Required:

  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.  
      • USA: The American Board of Radiology (ABR)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC -in Diagnostic Radiology)
      • UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST Specialist Register – (Clinical Radiology )
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR)
      • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT) Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR  Switzerland,
  • Sub-Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience after obtaining the main specialty qualification in United Kingdom (CESR) Portugal, Spain, or Italy.
  • Sub-Specialties: Minimum of four (4) years of experience after obtaining the sub-specialty qualification in Portugal, Spain, or Italy.

License:

  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
  • Current BLS/ACLS Certificate

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using fluoroscopy, CT, and ultrasound
  • Treat vascular conditions such as stenosis, thrombosis, aneurysms, and bleeding using endovascular techniques
  • Perform non-vascular interventions including biopsies, drainages, tumor ablation, and catheter placements
  • Manage emergency interventional procedures, including acute hemorrhage control and vascular access
  • Interpret diagnostic imaging to support interventional planning and patient management
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with referring specialties
  • Provide pre-procedure assessment, consent, and post-procedure follow-up care
  • Minimize radiation exposure by applying ALARA principles and safety protocols
  • Collaborate with surgery, oncology, nephrology, gastroenterology, and critical care teams
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and vascular case conferences
  • Provide on-call interventional radiology coverage when required
  • Maintain accurate procedural documentation and reporting
  • Contribute to quality improvement, audit, and service development initiatives
  • Supervise and train radiology residents, fellows, and junior staff
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and imaging safety regulations
